MY 1600HF IN HEARTBEAT GARAGE

« on: 01 November, 2007, 08:06:52 PM »

HELLO ALL. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A OIL PAINTING OF A RED FULVIA OFF E BAY, AND JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ITS HISTORY/ OR WHERE IT IS NOW . THE REGD NUMBER IS  BLJ 908T, THE LATEST REDG I HAVE EVER SEEN IS AN S REGD, I CANNOT QUITE READ THE SIGNATURE OF THE ARTIST, BUT IT STARTS WITH THE INITIALS DE  BON??. LETS SEE IF THE MYSTERY CAN BE SOLVED, OR WHO THE ARTIST IS. IN THE  2000 REGISTER, THE CAR    BELONGED TO A MR& MRS J M G McARDLE WHO WERE LIVING IN LONDON.SO I AWAIT ALL THE REPLIES. Huh?

Thought I recognised that reg number!

I have a pic here (having gone through my old photos) of Sue Rudler with the car back in about 1988 / 1989 I would think!

So if you contact Ade Rudler, I am pretty sure he would know all about the picture ( I seem to remember that he commissioned it when they owed the car, but I could be wrong). He will also know the history of the car and how it came to be such a late registered one....They sold it years ago though!

Hi Roger, Andrew (betaboy2.0) is correct the Fulvia belonged to Sue in the late eighties. I had been told about the car, it was for sale for £100 and I assumed it would be rotten, so didn't bother going to see it. Sue was dsperate for a Fulvia and pursuaded me to at least have a look. I was amazed when we saw it as it looked perfect, the only problem was a hole in the gearbox where someone had jacked it up and the jack had slipped!!! Luckly I had a few spare gearboxes at the time, so after a service, new exhaust and the gearbox changed it was on the road. It served us well for a number of years, and was eventualy resprayed. We sold it in about 1989 to someone in Malmesbury, but I have no idea where it is now. It was registered as a 'T' because someone in the services living in Germany bought it from new, then imported it on their return to the UK. We had the painting commisioned when we had the car, and I sold it recently at a car boot sale!!!!! Hope this is of interest. Ade.

I bought this Fulvia from a guy in Wanstead, London E11 in approx. 1999. My abiding memory was filling up with petrol and returning to the car with gallons of 4* over the garage forecourt! The top of the petrol tank had rusted through!
Kept the car for a number of years - had some work undertaken by Omicron - and finally sold it to Chris Payne (after it had sat in the garage for a number of years SORNed with intermittent electrical problem). Chris planned to work on the car but ill health prevented this so he then sold to some guy on eBay who promptly re-advertised it. Sometime later I was contacted by a guy called Mitch (from Liverpool/Wirral from memory) who got my details form the LMC register. He was doing a full restoration on the car - colour changed to a light blue apparently.
Sorry for the 7 year delay in filling in some of the gaps!!

Hello Justin, you can't rush things, so no problem about the delay. I wonder if anyone knows if the car is still around, and the owner may wish to buy the painting. Thanks Roger

Found these photos of the Fulvia during its restoration undertaken by Mitch who was the last known owner.
I have emailed to ask if he still has the Fulvia.

Mitch still owns the Fulvia. He sent me the following photos.
It is now in the paint shop for the third time. Mitch wasn't happy with the fit of the doors.
