Is there a way of identifying the final drive ratio in a Fulvia box? Will it be marked on the casing somewhere? All advice gratefully received.

The only reliable way is to count the turns of the input to output shaft.....

Tedious but true. The blue plate should have the right number on it but who knows if the box has been swopped around. The alternative is to open it up and count the teeth which is what I did on my Sport Box a few years ago as I was changing a bearing or some such.

Hi Tim,
 It was only after Ross made enquiries about the 'boxes I have for sale that I realised what an array of final drives and gear ratios Lancia produced for the Fulvia. My boxes are marked 818.630 which I assume is for a standard 1.3S although I note the Monte Carlo, which I presume has the same series model number, came with a lower diff. which must make the Monte Carlos purgatory on motorways . All this has got me thinking about building a box with a higher final final drive. As far as I can tell the 1600 Sport came equipped with the longest legs with a final drive giving 19.9mph per 1000 revs.
If all goes to plan my car will get its new engine sometime in the next few months and I might look into sourcing 10/37 or an  11/39 final drive to incorporate it into a spare box. 79 mph at 4000rpm definitely has an appeal. The ratios in a 1.3 five speed 'box with its lower 1st and 2nd gears compared to the 1600s might suit a higher final drive quite well.

This is another excuse for a photo! Yes, HF2000 final drive in a Fulvia works well.
