Perhaps a ball joint would do it instead of rubber...or a tiny UJ...

David

Thanks for the suggestion David, certainly worth exploring.  My mechanic friend (who currently has the car) is exploring options with his suppliers and sounds hopeful that he might be able to work something out.  I'm feeding back comments on here to him too!

Not the way its intended to be used but perhaps a start:

Not ideal but could cut this down and bond it in:

...or weld it in:

Perhaps more obvious would be a rubber bush in a steel sleeve, if you can get one soft enough.  It doesn't look like a suspension bush would work.  I'm assuming the rubber gives some movement rather than just there for refinement.

The latest eper doesn't allow you to look to see if it was also used on other models in the Fiat range, so we need to look at an old copy of eper, I have a 2005 edition but I can't get it to working correctly, I can go to the first page but I need page 4 which is the one shown above, but every time I try to move to that page it just reverts to the eper home page?
So anyone else got an earlier copy they can look at? if you just click on the item 9 part number on the main parts list to the right, it should take you to where you can look at it to see if it was used on other models in the Fiat Group, at least that way we'd know if there was another possible source.

Just to say thanks again to everybody who came forward with help to my earlier call for help.  Although I still haven't got hold of the part I was looking for, I do have a workable solution that seems to work pretty well and now have a gear change which is (almost) as good as it should be.

Am delighted to hear you have a solution - and before the summer is gone.

What did you come up with?

I am running ePER 18th ed. 2005 and have looked up the part in question using the part no. and I can confirm it was only used on the 1986-92 Delta. No Fiat, Alfa, Abarth or Fiat Commercial vehicles used this item. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Glad to see you have found a solution.

We used another bush in the end that was sourced by my friend.  It seemed to be a good fit once it was cut to size as the original was a lot longer than we needed.  The shortcoming is that I don't think there is quite as much rubber as the original but it's a minor grumble.

I had a feeling that was the case but thanks for looking it up and confirming.

In use does it feel any different?

Comparing it to my HF Turbo it feels a little bit hard edged, or wooden. In practice it just means that I have to be a little bit more deliberate with my gear changes than I do in the HF.
