Does anyone have a period picture or pictures of the Lancia rally team's support vehicles. I'd particularly like to get hold of some van pictures from the late 70s onwards (FIAT 242, Ducato, Iveco Daily), in any team livery, although preferably Martini. If somebody wouldn't mind scanning something for me I'd really appreciate it. My email is leeproudfoot(at)yahoo.co.uk.
I have a special project in mind.....
Thanks Lee

Purchase of a Renault Trafic followed by a request for photos of vans in Martini livery. This special project of yours... (puts 2 and 2 together)

Apologies for being slack at replying. Yes please, if I could cheekily ask to see a copy I'd appreciate it. My email is leeproudfoot(at)yahoo.co.uk.
Harvey, a Renault with Martini stripes, that would just be plain wrong. I was thinking more of a FIAT 238 or 242 (one for Wikipedia) or a Daily. The Trafic's going to have it's own special graphics, mostly featuring vegetables!

Not sure whether he still has it and its probably a bit too old for your requirements but Richard Thorne Classic Cars had the Lancia Alperton Appia parts van for sale a year or two ago.

Yep, I wanted it as an advertising vehicle for my business but it needed a fair amount of work and was at the time a bit pricey. Robin.

As a past owner of the Jolly van, in which I moved an enormous amount of stuff up from London, I can say it was a great vehicle. Appia engine with when I had it a 5 speed box, axles etc. much heftier possibly Aurelia. The only problem was it climbed hills extremely slowly when loaded, empty it cruised happily at 55/60. The only problem was its Lancia service livery I kept getting asked where I had my Lancia service garage! I sold it for less than £500 in about 1983.

I think the advert is rather ambitious. For advertising perhaps but to carry another vehicle?. I wouldn't underestimate what "om te bouwen" means in this case. In reality the "conversion" required to carry another vehicle would be ...significant!!..I've no idea what the permitted axle loading can be but I hate to think what happens anyway when you brake with the much prized fanalone on the back! On the other hand, perhaps braking wouldn't be a problem as its unlikely to move in the first place with that sort of load....

William, I think you are being a little unfair with your comment about Super Jollys. Obviously If you had a prized car on the back it would be properly straped down, as regards the axle limit it would probably be overloaded with anything more than a Fulvia on the back, but for its time the Super Jolly was quite powerful, and could certainly tow a trailer with a car on it as can be seen in the attached photo taken when collecting my B20 from Harry Mannings in 1986. Also don't forget the brakes were excellent, Discs all round, with twin calipers on the front, twin servos and a brake limiter valve on the back axle, plus of course front wheel drive, which other light commercial had all this in 1963!!!!!? Cheers, Ade

Fair play, you cannot argue with that sort of photo Ade. I still think its entertainingly ambitious to convert this bodywork (see the one in the photo for sale) to carry a vehicle on it. But no doubt where there's a will there's a way. (edit; i just noticed ;looking at the blur of the road the outfit is clearly moving at speed and yet apparently without driver? was nobody daring enough?

This is turning into an interesting thread! The Martin Willems site contains some gems, what about the Beta Berlina at nearly €7000! There's also a very tempting black Gamma Berlina, a couple of Thema SWs (always fancied one), Prisma Integrale and a couple of Autobianchi A112s. Ade, what happened to your Super Jolly?
