B10

« on: 19 January, 2015, 07:04:42 PM »

Spotted this postcard for sale. At first glance it's a B20 (on whitewall tyres).

But is it?

To start with, it looks too big, doesn't it?  And look at the badge on the front wing; the door handle... Is that a chrome strip on top of the door? Is the rear window shape correct (the rear profile looks a little too circular to my eye)?

Experts please contribute. I think it might be a B50 (see second photo)

I don't know about the model of Aurelia, but I wouldn't judge it by its size: I reckon most, if not all those cars have been added to the scene. Note the cars on the left have strong shadows, but those on the right do not; nor to all the figures! The Fiat Multipla and 1100 on the right don't look to have the right perspective either...

I was going to say the same thing. Without doubt all the cars have been added. The lighting on the Aurelia is completely different to the lighting of the cars next to it for instance. Some of the people have also been added in. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a very old photograph taken earlier in the century and 'modernised' in the 50's.

Still believe it is a Pinin Farina bodied B50, as William says.
Looking at the photo it just cannot be a B20.
The height of the side window related to height of the bodyside  is greater than on a B20. Also no B20 before the 6th series had front deflector. Nor had they side strips going to the rear wings. Nor had they heavily curved rear windows.
