Nothing of any technical merit here, just a pic taken today whilst out and about in the snow...

Hey Tim,
It was on your advice that I decided to venture out in the snow and see how the car would cope and , as predicted by your goodself, the Fulvia was superb. I once had a Merc e320 which couldn't make it out of the driveway if there was the slightest hint of ice!
The pic was taken at the top the The Long Mynd , not on a 'phone  Grin but on a shonky old Nikon D50 which I'm quite fond of.
The 'Mynd is  a challenge in this type of weather , it rises very steeply out of the Shropshire countryside to about 1600' and all the approach roads are very steep and slippy. No probs in a Fulvia although coming down was more exciting than going up.

Here's the view from the top.

Great car and stunning photography Rob, make the most of both.

I have never been up the Long Mynd, just looked in wonder as I hack by on the M54/A5 to and from N Wales.

I navigated for a friend in his very open Austin Seven on the VSCC Measham rally many years ago and we went up there as fast as we could! A few years later I saw it in daylight, which made me think! It's a hell of a road.

I feel very fortunate to live on the lower slopes of the Mynd spend about 50% of my working life riding the trails and green roads which criss cross the Mynd [I run a trail riding business].
I think John's reference to the road on the Mynd will almost certainly be the Burway. It's not for the faint hearted. The Burway is part of an ancient drover's route which drops off the Mynd straight down into Church Stretton. It's tarmac nowadays and has only a cursory strip of Armco to prevent the unwary plummeting down into the valley.
There are some brief clips of the various roads [many used by the VSCC] on this video. The Burway features very briefly in the opening couple of sequences. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it...

MY 1600HF IN HEARTBEAT GARAGE

« Reply #9 on: 30 December, 2014, 04:28:42 PM »

Hi Rob, I am not a million miles from you , i am in Aberystwyth , so may well arrange a day with you for me an a friend. A old friend of mine used to be a glider instructor at the glider club there, don't think the t120V bonnie would like all the mud though. Cheers Roger

Hi Roger, The gliding club is about a mile from my house as the Horsa flies. You'd be very welcome to come and have a day out and I'll always do a favourable deal for a fellow Lancisti ...
Rob
PS T120s aren't too bad in the mud, Bud Ekins rode one quite successfully on trails not too far from here in 1961 Grin

On the 2010 (and sadly last I think) Giro de Salopia we navigated the same terrain, albeit on a nice summers day;

.....and the tin worm had definitely not got to my previous Beta Coupe. Seen here getting some reasonable attention and admiration.

This picture nicely shows the more subtle slope of the pre-facelift roof.

Oh, yeah - we remember Long Mynd and the Giro ( and that's the back corner of my integrale Smiley ) as I remember the handbrake wouldn't hold it going up and then we got lost somewhere ! Smiley
