Rust , What Rust !! I don't See any rust !!!

« on: 16 December, 2014, 09:51:57 PM »

I have an 03 Ypsilon  which is a great little car  I laid it up and the battery went flat so I fitted a new one , the only problem is the power surge when I fitted the new Battery caused the ecu to think there was a fault with the engine. the car runs fine but the engine light is on and the dash reads complete engine failure !! Huh?. I brought it to a couple of experts and they said that the ecu was damaged when the new battery was fitted and it would need to replace it . The cost of an ecu is nearly the value of the car , and this is for a re-built one ! Does anybody know anyone who could help with this problem . I am afraid it would fail the NCT Test which is the same as the MOT test only a lot stricter ! Thanks David.  Smiley

I have tried disconnecting the battery and then joining the tow battery leads together with the battery out, This I believe this drains away any power in the ecu and turns it off completely. This made no difference . Would the battery be the problem ? when I crank the engine over the dash lights nearly go out completely , the battery is new but a bit small for the tray and a bit shorter in height ! Maybe the ecu needs more power ? Thanks David.
