I was going to get my local saddler to make a new leather strap that holds the spare tyre in place. Does anyone know what the original colour/finish was. Were they natural leather or black, or something else?

Hi Noel
My strap is brown which I assume is natural leather.

Just come across this - did you get it sorted Noel ? If not I can take a photo of mine, it was half fabric,  half faux-leather.

(I replaced it with a nicely stitched leather one !)

Thanks Simon, I have enough info to get a new one made but haven't quite go around to it yet. Plus with our Castlemaine Rally coming up thought I 'd have a chat to a few more of the knowledgable there!

Eventually got around to getting a strap made, never want to rush things down here! It is also much easier to get the brackets off with the fuel tank out. It’s a bit utilitarian but will do the job.

Why is it easier with the tank out, have the screws been relaced with bolts ? Or is a first series thing ?

Strap looks very nice - not utilitarian at all !

There were self tappers on the rear bracket but two odd small bolts on the front one. I decided to fix them with 4mm machine screws and nuts, thought they'd be a little stronger Huh? Huh?

And the strap is long enough to tie down some luggage as well.
