There are a couple of threads on difficult restarting of hot engines and ethanol fuels are mentioned as a possible cause. My supply of Castrol Valvemaster Plus from the UK is coming to an end and I can't find any here. They have Wynns and Bardahl (Belgian) here which I know nothing about so didn't really trust them. On the Castrol data sheet it says theirs can be mixed with most makes apart from sodium based additives. Turns out Wynns is sodium based so lucky I didn't go with that (Valvemaster is phosporous). Luckily I came across the Millers site here in France and Millers VSPe is formulated to protect against the effects of ethanol as well as being a lead substitute and octane booster. It's potassium based so should be OK to take over from my Valvemaster but to make sure I emailed them. This was the reply:

Dear Mr Sweet,

Thank you for your enquiry concerning our fuel additive.  I can confirm that there would be no adverse effects in moving from Castrol Valvemaster Plus to Millers VSPe Power Plus which is endorsed by the FHBVC and which provides lead replacement, ethanol protection and is an octane booster.

More details on our additives can be found on our website here:  http://www.millersoils.fr/classic-engine-oils/classic-fuel-additives/

In making the changeover from Castrol to Millers, our advice would be to run your fuel tank with the Castrol additive to as empty as possible and then fill up using the new Millers additive.

VSPe Power Plus is available in 2 sizes, and I have provided the links below to the products on our website where you can find also more technical information:

- 250ml bottle = 8 euros (or a box of 10x250ml = 72 euros) - each bottle treats 40L of fuel and  is ideal for people who do not do many miles in a season and would not use many bottles.

- 500ml 'multi-shot' bottle = 37,50 euros - each bottle treats 500ml fuel and is therefore a much more cost-effective solution for those doing lots of miles each season.

All products can be bought online and you can pay by PayPal or cheque or send an email confirming your order and how you would like to pay.

Postage charges are invoiced at cost and details can be found here:  http://www.millersoils.fr/delivery-costs/

I hope this is helpful, but if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to get back to me.

Best wishes,

I'm not sure if in negating the effects of ethanol on the various fuel supply components it also negates the problems of ethanol completely concerning hot restarting but thought it might be worth looking into by members who are having problems.
