Some of you will know that I have been working sporadically on The Book with Jack on and off over the past few years. Jack has just asked me to help clarify some details and to raise these questions on the forum:

•   Does anyone have any information on Oliver Speight Racing and his Jolly Club (UK), which was involved with Fulvias in competition in     the late 1960s? The origins of this venture are known about, but how it all ended up is not clear.
•   Has anyone got a photo of Stanley Newman, who was Managing Director of Lancia England in the 1930s?
•   Similarly, we need a photo of Joe Weedon, who was Works Manager at Lancia Alperton post war.
•   What recent year was it that Stirling Moss was guest speaker at the LMC dinner after an AGM at Ettington Chase?

Any information you have could go direct to Jack Romano, or via me.

Thanks,

Colin

Hi Colin

Stirling Moss was guest speaker in '99 (I double checked in VL ), but I also remember because it was the first AGM weekend we attended and we almost ran him over in the car park on the Sunday!

Thanks Steve,

But the 2009 AGM was at Shrewsbury and not Ettingham Chase - perhaps Jack was wrong about the venue? However, there was an AGM at Ettingham Chase in 2008 - is it possible you were at that one too? I was at both AGMs, but as a day-tripper as usual I missed the dinner and the speaker.

Just to prove to you that I was there, here are two photos: one from 2008 with forum-contributor Chris Gawne being awarded something by ex-President Paul Bishop, and from 2009 with you (I think!) being awarded  something along with Paul Baker.

Hi Colin

It was 1999!! Definitely at Ettington chase, I think we also went back the following year. Swindon was 2008.

Steve,

Sorry - I was confusing 1999 with 2009! I bow to your certainty and will settle for it being 1999. Phew ...

One day, someone will do a list of the AGM locations, dates and trophy winners ... before all memories are gone Grin

Hello Colin

Just to confirm, AGM Ettington Chase, 25 - 27 June 1999.  I have photographs of Gerald Batt presenting a memento to Stirling Moss, and his wife receiving a bouquet of flowers from Margaret Cross.

Shouldn't be too hard as ever since I've been a member, 1994, all the information has been printed soon after the event in VL.

Brian, yes correct August 1999 no. 372, has a thank you letter published from Susie Moss, but no photos of Stitling.

Sorry Brian, but VL isn't the last word on 'facts' - e.g. the cover photo of the current issue showing the Fulvia 50th grid at Goodwood should have been credited to Tony Harrison!  Huh?  Roll Eyes

Guy,
That's nothing New, Jacks been giving credit elsewhere for my photos for years! but the after AGM reports in VL are usually accurate.

Guy thanks for mentioning that, my last 4 Viva Lancia cover shots were all credited to other people Sad
I agreed with both Tim and Jack, I was happy to shoot the Fulvia line up, all I asked for was a photo credit

It costs me £300 a year for photographer's insurance (needed to shoot trackside) spent 6 hours shooting hundreds of shots and organizing the track line up, thankfully Micheal Ward was on hand to help Smiley

and not one apology?

things need to change!
