Ian Young who endured his long illness with cheerful fortitude died on Thursday.

Anne has asked me to circulate this sad news to many of his friends who enjoyed his good company and wonderful voice.

He enjoyed his life and spread happiness as he and Anne travelled in his Lambda across Europe to Sliding Pillar, French Lancia Club, Fobello, and other meetings and rallies .

Anne is making arrangements for his funeral and details will be circulated. It would be good to arrive in Lambdas.

Ian's circle of friends is far wider than those I have sent this to, so please pass on the word.

It is sad to hear of Ian's death, he continued to attend as many rallies as possible even though he was ill.
My abiding memory of him was at one of the Lancia Club France rallies, mid way through one of the lunches he started to sing, suddenly the whole room went quiet...... then exploded into rapturous applause as he finished.
Our sympathies to Anne.

So sad to hear of Ian's passing. My abiding memories will be of his good humour and his unfailing ability to get him and his Lambda to his destination. He always had a story to tell and each few hours Jacky and I spent in his company were always highly entertaining. We will remember him as a genuinely nice man.

I echo all the words about Ian that others have said so well – a lovely man. And here is another photo at a happy time – Ian and Anne on the Sliding Pillar Rally in 2006.

Such very sad news, he will be much missed from Lambda gatherings. He was at the Lambda Phoenix lunch three weeks ago and although obviously unwell still his usual cheerful self. A dyed in the wool Lambda enthusiast he always had time to chat and take an interest in the Dilambda, even if  he more than once asked me when I would be trading it in for a proper vintage Lancia!

The photo attached was taken on the 2008 French rally and finds Ian unusually sitting in the passenger seat of his Lambda. He was actually having a snooze!

Our heartfelt sympathy to Ann.

From Jonathan Wood:-
The funeral of our good friend Ian Young will take place on Tuesday 13th December at 10.30 at Chiltern Woodland Burial Park.  If weather and distance make it practical it would be good if you could come in a Lambda or other Lancia.

M40 exit 2. Northbound A355 signposted Beaconsfield.

Then at junction take A40 eastbound signposted Gerrards Cross.

Next go left up Potkiln Lane which leads to CWBP, about 0.5 mile on left. There are big notices, but you can miss the entrance if travelling too fast!

Ian Young’s funeral took place today. It was a moving event - a wonderful ecological, natural burial in a beautiful woodland setting and with a great gathering of Lancia and other friends in tribute to Ian.

John Millham has asked me to post some of his photos of the event, including one of the Welsh choir singing their tribute – see below.

Really sorry nobody told me Ian had died: I would have gone to the funeral.

Lovely fellow.

Sympathies to Ann.
