Yes, it was another fantastic day of historic and classic car racing at Brands Hatch today. There were relatively few Lancias racing, but these included Charles Aram’s Fulvia Sport 1.3, which did well and looked good, as did Johan Denekamp’s Beta Monte Carlo - see photos below.

Johan was described by the commentator as a “Welsh Dutchman” and interestingly his Monte carried a sticker saying it was race prepared by Day and Schindler with a telephone number 071 …. - a London code which dates from about 1990. It must have been well prepared then to cope with 21 years of racing.

The car park included Richard Fridd’s Fulvia S1 Sport 1.3 (see photos) - looking lovely and carrying a ‘for sale’ sign.

About 20 years ago I went to Brands with a visiting American friend to enjoy a similar race meeting. He commented that in the US you would have to travel 1000 miles to experience a day of racing like that, and how come so few people turn out to see something so extraordinary when it’s on London’s doorstep. I agreed then and did again today.

I need to get better at having you "usual suspects" in my phone...  So I was there, saw this pair in the paddock but was distracted by a two stroke DKW engine in an Elva and the like and missed the 70s road sport race.  All the same a cracking day.

I last saw that Fulvia at VSCC Prescot in August 2010 when it was for sale.  Lovely to see it out and about for all I missed it actualy on track.

As for the size crowd I'm so grateful to have the space for the kids to runabout and such a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the paddock.  Its a meeting for the competitors not the spectators, I wonder how many actually pay on the gate?  Whenever I need to (as today) the girl is always rather shocked at someone forcing money her way.

The other "secret" is what a lovely walk the Grand Prix loop is in the lunch hour - didn't see a soul.
