Yes, I'd have loved to have gone to Covent Garden but was on my way back from Krakow today, of all places. Why Krakow? It's near the Fiat Panda/500/Seicento plant at Tychy, which I was visiting. A fascinating place, the biggest car factory in Eastern Europe and the highest in production quality of all the Fiat plants, apparently. Krakow is intriguing, too, and we had dinner in a salt mine.

I didn't see a single Lancia of any age in Poland, sadly, but plenty of old Fiat-based cars plus a Syrena which FSM (which has grown by circuitous means into the current Fiat Auto Poland operation) used to build. having not driven my Fulvia for a whole week I needed to give it an airing, so I got home and out of the garage it came.

Glad the Piazza event was a success. I'd have been there if I could.

Firstly apologies for my lack of knowledge about older Lancias but I caught a quick look at what I think was a blue Dilambda going in to a classic car show at Blarney Castle on Thursday 20th.

Hi Rhys, I'm all agog! with just a handful of Dilambda known to exist I'd love to know more. Any chance of tracking it down?

What made you think that it was a Dilambda?

Robin,

Having looked on the internet at some images of older Lancia models the Dilambda lookes like the best fit, what I saw was a 2 door convertible with the same raked back radiator. The car was a mid blue colour with black wings, RHD and there was a gent driving and a female passenger.

I have searched on the internet to see if I can find out what the event was but I have been unable to come up with anything. The cars were arriving at Blarney House next to Blarney Castle at around lunch time on the 20th.

Rhys,

Thanks for your efforts to identify the car you saw. Certainly sounds as though it is an early 30s Lancia, Dilambda or Astura.

Can you remember the headlights? If it was a Dilambda they shoud be shield shaped, the only Lancia model ever fitted with them. Having said that the 'Steady' Barker Dilambda was fitted with round ones from new!

Robin,

When Ron ‘Steady’ Barker was contemplating fitting non-original headlamps, it must have the time he referred to “being on the horns of a dilambda”!

Nice one Colin but no, sorry,  different car, recounting a trip across France in a Dilambda and titled On the Horns of a Dilambda. Another reprint for Viva Lancia! perhaps?.

Steady's Dilambda has an English James Young saloon body and I believe was fitted with round headlights from new. Its currently being rebuilt to an incredibly high standard by Keith Bowley at Ashton Keynes Vintage Restorations. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Robin,

From what I remember the lights were round, however I was more interested by the badge on the front as it was the first time I had seen one of the older badges and as such was quite excited by the fact.
