A colleague at work who collects old bottles came across these today on the classic bottle forum (!) he is a member of; a lambda pickup - anyone recognise it?

I just know someone is going to say "oi - I'm a member of that forum" Cheesy

Neil

Yes.  This could be a long story.  I bought the car for 25 quid from Cann Medland garage in Okehampton about 1964.  I had been looking for a 7th Weymann saloon and bought it unseen on the basis that it might need some repair. When Nevil Buckle and I arrived to collect it we discovered that the local children/dogs/foxes had removed /eaten the fabric body.  We were a shade disappointed but nevertheless set off to tow it back to Buckle's house at Devizes behind his 'Mayfair' coupe; see photo below en route.  We then removed the engine, gearbox and anything else that was of any value and stuffed these in the back of my then current Lambda limousine to cart these back to Liverpool, and sawed off the torpedo tail which was in good shape so that this could be welded onto Buckles 9th series platform to turn it into a touring car. The remains were pushed into the hedge.

About thirtry years later Buckle's stepson, Tim Martin phoned to say that he had found a car in the hedge and planned to restore it, and this is it. Tim is a highly competent engineer and this is an astonishing piece of work.  There are too few Lambda pick-ups around.

The coda to the story is that, at an AGM a few years ago, I was talking to Roy Wilcocks about Lambda saloons and he explained that he had left a Weymann saloon at Cann Medland garage some time in the 1950s when he was posted there in the RAF but got moved on and never got back to collect it..........................

John

What a great thread this one is! It almost matches the Aprilia bill of sale one for proving the power of the forum!

Can we also share this in VL so the rest of the membership can have their morning brightened up like mine has just been by reading this?

Thanks

Andy

Wouldn't that look good at VSCC Prescot to carry the fire extinguishers up for the marshalls...

...or double parked in the inner paddock at the Goodwood Revival.

Anyone any more photos of it?

And here's one of Roy attending to the car around 1952, before its resurrection.
