Still working on the little bugger ! i mean ypsilon, I removed the carpet to replace it with the carpet I got from the breakers, I found a hole in the floor !! I tought I left the dreaded rust behind with my beta ! anyway the hole ! I think was caused by the car being beached on a kerb or somthing removing the under body seal an exposing raw metal to the elements. I whipped out the mig welder and quickly welded the offending hole Cool My excuse is the German salty roads causing the rust and not modern Lancia metal  Roll Eyes

The latest om the Ypsilon front, I brought the car for it's N,C,T test. The dam thing failed, 1, headlights 2, wrong bolts in the wheels, they claim they are the wrong bolts, how they know this is a mystery. 3, the light for the airbag does not light up on starting the car. another mystery. Any way someone disconnected the bulb or in this case the Led from the printed circuit in the dash board, this I fixed by soldering in a new one, then bringing the car to the garage to have the air bag re-set.and then the lights re aligned. The re-test is next friday. wish me luck Tongue

It's a bit like a beer-gut, but attached to the steering wheel, rather than resting on it

Kind of kind of the Colonel to say "like a beer gut", rather than "like your beer gut"!

I tought the air bag was me Grin. or the guy in the test center. apperently this is a new failure in the test, if it does not come on when the key is turned and then go out it means there is a fault ! so disconnecting it hides faults!.  Sad I reckon the last owner or garage where it serviced did'ent have the equipment to re-set the airbag. anyway I'may have to cancel the test due to the weather because its  under two feet of snow at the moment Embarrassed

One would never sink to the use of personal abuse, unless it was absolutely necessary, of course.
I was merely offering an explantation somewhat more relative to the lower orders.

Interesting reading :

http://www.irishlinks.co.uk/nct-test-ireland-mot.htm

Drivers without an NCT certificate face a €1,500 fine, but, and from May 2009 drivers will be issued with five penalty points

From Jan 2010 - vehicles registered prior to 1 January 1980 will not be liable to testing

I see it's cheaper than an MOT and up to now only necessary every 2 years. be nice if we could have the no testing required for pre 1980 vehicles the same.

Isn't 1980 the year deemed by the EU as a cut off for 'classic' cars? I think a lot of european countries are removing lots of requirements for cars manufactured pre this date. We should really be starting a campaign amongst clubs to have this in the UK. The free road tax should also be equalised to this date.

Yes horray, The little bugger oh! I mean the little Ypsilon passed the dreaded N.C.T  Grin I had a very enthuastic tester, the lights were showing a little bit of beam in the wrong direction with the beam benders but he was'nt to concerned. He was taken with the general overall good condition of the car. Now this raises the question, did he pass the car because he liked it or because in was road worthy in every way. I know it's a very stiff test but it has to last for two years, this is an EU directive so I woulden't be suprised if this system came to the UK. The 1980 cut off date is a bit of a bummer as the Have trouble taking readings for emissions even off my Thema and Grale and they are twenty years old. Grin also they cant test the brakes on the Grale because it's four wheel drive.  Tongue
