That's a great excuse by Fiat.
water based may be softer (Hmmm interesting thought)
but the lacquer on top will be just as hard as any other clear coat.

The red car is Chris Catlow's and was at the AGM last year, in the corner of the back car park with my Y10. It is in Stroud in Gloucestershire, just off the M5. It's a nice car but has had the off side front wing replaced after a bump and it could do with a bit more work to make it really nice. Chris is a nice straightforward guy, a proper Lancisti, and I am sure it would be worth having a chat with him.

Here's another one for sale on ebay  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200477707844&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

As Frank, says owned by Chris Catlow who is a genuine Lancisti and nice fella, originally this one was brought in by another member at the time of the Bristol group, Garry Mason; Garry bought it from Van Dijk Schouton Lancia Dealer in Rotterdam where my elefantino Rosso came from, he decided to go for one after I gave him a blast around the Tormarton area in mine.
I do note it has a non- standard air cleaner on it, although at what point it that was fitted I don't know, perhaps it was when the Daughter, of boss of Walkers, owned it? Which is who Garry sold it on to.
Apologies for the quality of the photos. Roll Eyes

i was looking at the ad when it was first posted on donedeal & thought about contacting the owner, but thought where would i put it!!! Just on the whole headlight issue, i'd suggest getting the owner to put it through the NCT & agree if it passes maybe split the cost, the last thing you want is to buy a car that will never pass an NCT due to its headlights!

Grin Became the proud owner of an Ypsilon last night Cheesy. 16v engine is quite lively on the run home I was in my Grale and my mate Damien drove the Y I chased behind and it had no problem pulling away from me. 140,000 km on the clock, a little neglected, a little dirty, a little dented, but an easy fix . The rear shocks are a little shaged and the fuel filler cover is in the boot also the fuel filler cap is a pemporary plastic item, the one you buy in petrol stations in a hurry, the drivers side window and the radio don't work, on the plus side it has a new clutch and it cost €500.00. A cheap car. Has anyone tried to convert one to right hand drive ? Cheesy

Hi Guy's Im getting through the small faults on the Ypsilon, so far- new rear shocks, rear swinging arm driver's side, new bushings to rear sub-frame, new brake shoes rear, drive shaft oil seal, cv joint boot, a good second hand fan motor for the heater blower. Nearly there, It drives very well now!. Does any one know how to modify the lights for right and drive . Thanks David. Huh?

Hi Dave,
Why even bother thinking about converting to RHD, it's great as it is, I never found it a problem.

You can find a lot of parts for the Y on ebay Germany.
Do you need to modify the lights to RHD? I always used to drive with the headlamps set on low position without anyone flashing me during the 4 years I had my Rosso, only way I can think of is what Alan Cooper did with his Delta HPE Turbo, he cut a slot in the underside of the headlamp housings, then stuck  clear beam benders on the inside of the headlamp lense, then resealed the housing, only problem was that the adhesive went yellow after about 3 years, but it worked. In case you are unaware the headlamp lense are polycarbonate not glass, so you don't have to worry about stones cracking them.

Heater blower, same as 2nd series Punto as will be the electric window, but you'd probably have to find a Punto Sporting for the right bits, as I've pointed out previously, if you ever need the rear wiper motor, only the correct part will fit, it's different to the Punto, although at first sight they look the same, the mountings are different.
Don't forget to use the correct oil in the engine with frequent oil changes as the 16v doesn't like anything else.
The 16v does go well, Simon Davies and myself used to have great cross country chases on our way from Herefordshire to Goodwood for track day, me in the elefantino Rosso, and Simon in his Delta HPE Turbo, cross country they were fairly well matched.

I brought the Ypsilon to the local "Fast Fit" service center to check the lights, the beam is straight ahead not pointing to the right. I was told by an N C T tester that as long as the beam is flat it will pass, so i need to get a blanking piece to cover the bit of beam that points up at an angle . It should work Smiley

Good news but I'm very surprised as with my Rosso if you shone them against a wall there was a distinct kick up to the right.

When I first bought my Y it had no mods to the headlights, so the chap that did my first MOT with it marked out where I should apply some blanking pieces. I didn't use the accessory beam benders, but cut specific shapes from black gaffer tape. They usually lasted the 12 months until the next test. I've attached a pic below if it helps to work out where to fit yours.

Thanks tor the tip Lee, I did'ent have much luck with the local fast fit, they werent to keen to try and modify the beam. I am going to try and blank the beam myself, park on level ground and shine the beam on a white backround. I have studied your picture its a bit small to see your tape but I have an idea where to start now Roll Eyes

I mucked about with bits of tape on the lamps while shining the beam on the garage door, kind'a managed to eliminate the beam that points up on the right, looking al Lee's pic the tape is in nearly the same place,   Smiley

If you still need it, here's a link to the same picture on flickr. If you select "all sizes" above the image you'll be able to look at a larger version.
