Hello Dave,
Can you let us have a few more details and a link to the photos, what engine is fitted? what model is it?
I bought my elefantino Rosso new, and after running it for over three years before I had an accident which meant I couldn't change gear with my right hand, I loved it, went like stink. no real problem with parts as most mechanical items are the same a series 2 Punto,  the Punto Sporting was the nearest thing to my Rosso and was fitted with the same 1242cc 16v Twin OHC 86bhp Fire engine. A Fiat approved Punto Manual by Porter Manuals that used to be available through Fiat dealer parts dept, Fiat Part Number 46000982 covers all models of Punto 1994-1999.
All lot depends on the specs, but no doubt about it the 16v engine is probably the best one to have although it needs regular servicing and the correct grade of oil to avoid problems, although I've never had one the next best engine on paper is the 1.4.
Check that the electric windows work as these are a frequent problem, also check the rear wiper, it is not the same as the Punto item as it has different fixings, it is twice the price of the Punto one, and definitely not interchangable.
Surface corrosion under the bonnet is par for the course, with the servo usually being quite rusty.
Don't let anyone tell you that the headlights are "Centre dip" as was once believed to be the case, they are not! they are LHD only and not available in RHD, you need a friendly sympathetic MOT tester who will let you blank of the bit of the headlamp that's the problem, I always kept the in car headlight adjuster in the lowest position and I was only ever flashed once.
Speedo doesn't conform to construction & use in the UK, but as it doesn't form part of the UK Mot, it's up to the owner what he does about it, there are people around who can take the unit apart and add mph markings, which is a bit difficult as they must be lit at night.
I think Demon Tweeks do an electronic converter that attaches to the back of the unit and changes the electronic signal, so that where the clock indicates in KH with the converter you read those same figures as MPH, I hope you understand what I mean.

Ireland works in km and kmh Brian, so that's one problem Dave won't have - but the lights will be the same issue they are in the UK.

On the site it says £1950 which Sounds a lot of money, but if it's £795 that sounds reasonable, depending on condition;
my late 1999 elefantino Rosso in excellent condition, with full service history, aircon, 3 Lancia Motor Club owners from new, with 81k miles on the clock, has just sold for a touch over £1420, and you'd be hard pushed to find a better one, but I think that would be doubtful.

Think perhaps that's not the one as it's over £1000 more than the £795 Dave was referring to.

No Guy's, the add also has a fiat x19 for €1750. I spoke to the vendor and he quoted €795 euros which is quite cheap Grin I think its worh a look for that kind of money. Roll Eyes

Just had another look and spotted the picture this time, it looks good, well worth a look, I note it also has beam benders fitted to the headlamps, OK if you can get away with it, but officially it's not allowed in the uk as a permanent fix.
Good luck,

I did'ent get to see it tonight, it looks good in the picture but picures can make a rot box look good, I believe the n.c.t est will allow beam benders but generally they are very strict. I've seen cars imported from the uk with frsh m.o.t's that would'ent be within a sniff of passing our national car test. As for the speedo we have been using km's since 2005.  It took a while to adapt your brain to km's I think it's more about loosing our indipendence and becoming more European, I protested at the time. suggest checking the heater matrix (mist on the screen when you turn the heater on though not sure if you will get that now it is warm outside) - see the thread on that a while back. It is a weak point on the Punto apparently

Same colour as my old 1.4  Cry

Finish on the Ypsilon was always good, once it's had a good wash, detail and some wax it'll look like a car half it's age. I can vouch for what Brian says about electric windows and rear wiper, faults on mine and ones that I never got round to fixing.

All you need to to is find a cheap set of Punto alloys on eBay and it'll look even better

Here's mine in days gone by showing my MOT acceptable headlight mods and the Abarth alloys I fitted

Hi Lee while I agree with all your comments, as far as the headlight mod you show is concerned, your MOT man might have accepted it, as did mine, but if you look at "constructions and use" the MOT Rules, and the information booklet that I got when importing my Rosso, it's a specific NO, NO, and can only be used as a temporary measure.
As for wheels, although they are unlikely to be available, the Anthracite elefantino Rosso Wheels look great and wear very well.
One other point is that the paintwork on my Rosso, Grigio mettalic chipped very easily and I had a lot of stone chips on the front of the bonnet, Fiat wouldn't repair this under warranty as they said it was due to the paint being water based and softer.
