The owner of this Thema, which is advertised on Ebay has emailed me asking for advice on its value.  As the Thema is not within my area of expertise, can anybody advise what would be a realistic value?

Given the low mileage, one owner from new, top spec, good service history, plus the all important belt / tensioner change, this car has a lot going for it.

Despite all this, I'd be surprised to see this S2 Turbo getting much more than £1200 - £1500.

The S3 Turbo is the more desirable version and a similar S3 would be pushing closer to £2000. The engine of the S2 Turbo is a bit peaky and needs to be kept high in the revs to keep it in the fat part of the power band. Both the S1 Turbo and the S3 Turbo make for more "puntable" B-road cars.

As a bench mark, 5 yrs ago I sold a very clean rust-free S1 Turbo with black 8.32 leather interior, FSH and only 2 owners from new for £1200. And I didn't have a queue waiting at my door.

I'd go along with Mikes opinion on this one, very nice but with an ABS warning light on it's a definite fail on it's next MOT if not fixed, while owner states that it's probably a wheel sensor, don't take that as gospel, it could just as easily be the ABS Unit, I can never understand why anyone would try to sell a car like this with what they consider to be a minor fault, if it's that minor, why not get it fixed?

Thats a very nice looking Thema, the same ABS problem happened to my Thema, it turned out to be a faulty wheel sensor. i disconected he warning light on the dash, took out the relay, ind put it through our NCT test , the same as your MOT except 10 times harder, it passed. The bigest problem was repairing it after , I had to remove each sensor in turn and fit a replacment until it worked, sods law it was the last one . I diden't have any warning light flashing on the check panel though  Smiley

The owner of the car has been following this thread and has emailed me with the answer, the response which I have copied below.

"I know someone has said they dont understand why i would put it up for sale if it was just a sensor but that is what i have been told off a mechanic. I honestly know nothing about Lancias so whether this is gospel or not i cant say. The main reason why i am is selling it is because im 25 and the petrol and insurance costs are killing me and looking to get something smaller. I love the car but just cant afford it."

He has my sympathy, trying to insure a Thema Turbo at his age, Ouch Roll Eyes
My comment wasn't particularly aimed at the owner, it just makes sense to me to get any problems sorted before selling that way it should achieve the best sales price, many people are slightly suspicious of cars sold with faults.

I can understand the fuel cost, when I had my turbo about six yrs ago I could burn 40 euros in an afternoon. You cant help blowing off BMW's Grin
