On Saturday Chugga & Warby made their way to the wilds of Bedfordshire in search of Flaminia parts for a secret new project, which will be revealed at a later date Grin

Sometime ago Frank Tierney & myself went to Bury St Edmunds to have a look at a Flaminia Berlina that had been advertised for parts, Frank wanted to see if it was worth buying for parts for his restoration.
On arriving the Flaminia had nearly joined forces with the ground it was embedded in Shocked
The original owner was the author Alistar Mclean but was now owned by a retired Naval Officer who was once the Naval Attache in Cairo, but at one time had used the Flaminia to commute from the Faslaine Submarine Base to his home at weekends then all the way back in time for monday morning.
Frank bought it, and with great trepidation managed to get it on one piece onto a trailer and home.
Knowing Frank had bits left over and that Chugga was on the hunt, I met up with Chugga and Warby near to my home and led them over to Franks, where after an expedition to get in the garage Roll Eyes it was soon apparent that a Flaminia transaxle, attached to the De Dion and springs was too heavy and too large to move in one piece, so with much grunting, mild swearing (it wasn't that bad) the De Dion and the springs were detached from the transaxle, a task much easier said than done.
When eventually a pot joint was persuaded part from the diff a beautifully engineered cush drive was revealed with whacking great wedges of rubber in between cast segments, what workmanship, no wonder Lancia eventually went bust.
Anyway, it was all removed out of the garage and into Frank's back yard where Matty, Aka Warby, Did his November Calander pose.

The last photo is of the donor car and that is probably the best photo, you should see the rest!

what a fantastic day out  Grin set off from wrexham at 6.00 am, matty bouncing around the van like a mad raver on extacy  Shocked listening to club land 16 "YES AT 6AM HE'S STILL WILD!!", made excellent time down and were with brian for just after 9am, brian hit the nail on the head with matty he said "you just love the attension dont you" this was while he was posing for his mr november shot  Cheesy, matty is a great friend and a fantastic help (keeping me awake on road trips) he's certainly  one of a kind  .Splitting the couplings on the dedion was a nice little challenge as i'd never done anything with flaminia's before so i wasn't sure what to expect, would everything fall appart with millions of ball bearings all over the place was running through my mind, but in all fairness it was really easy once we'd realised how it was all held together, the worst part of the whole day was moving the dedion and box out of the garage into the back of the van, i now understand why flaminia / aurelia's are 50/50 weight distribution!!, my thanks to brian for finding me all these parts, frank for selling at "value for money prices" and matty for........well.......being matty Wink

Unfortunately, it's too late for the December issue.  My next "What's Hot on the Forum" will be sent to Jack for inclusion in the January issue  Sad

As I sent an article on the Delta or the next issue of VL, I didn't want to have too many things in the magazine, so decided not to do a "What's Hot..." in the December issue!  My plan is to use one of your threads for the next forum article.

What a wonderful trip it was from start to finish. i must thank starbucks (although other coffee houses are available) for maintaining my perkyness at all hours. i got to meet two great guys in Brian and Frank and i got to go on a road trip with my buddy chugga which is always a joy for me and often entertaining for others but yet again mainly me. I was thinking about other threads on here about promoting the clubs public image etc and seems the lmc calender idea has arisen why not give it a go i am willing to pose in various positions, outfits etc with different lancias we could even donate the profits to charity thats always good for boosting image giving to charities.
isnt it amazing how cushy cush drives are although they are also quite snug and rather oily too. i found that de dion tube plus springs etc are not always easier to move out of a cluttered garage inbetween two cars i also discovered that the gearbox is also a pain in this situation, one of the most important things i learnt though was when you stare at a pretty lady out of a van window that you make sure you are going more than 10 yards down the road before you reach your destination, and i find that an important part of any trip is the learning experience

The more you see the better?   My own view is to keep them fully dressed.
