Had a few ignition problems lately, the pertronix ignitor I fitted a few weeks ago started to fire erratically and could not be trusted so I fitted a spare points dizzy.  The car ran ok for fifty miles but I could feel a slight misfire at light throttle and on removing the cap found that all four contacts had a small v groove in them presumably from spark erosion?  I rechecked the rotor alignment at the static timing point and it looked close enough and the advance operated normally using strobe gun.  I am sure the contacts were ok when I fitted the points dizzy which came off another car but looks the same as my old one.  Has anyone had any cap contact burning issues before?

Cap no4 terminal to modified inlet manifold - had arc there but am running MSD6AL multi spark box through original set up.

Apparently, Cap (plastic) groves caused by arc can be fixed with nail varnish!

For a tenner you can get a new cap

I am talking about the internal contacts where the spark jumps from the rotor arm, have fitted an old cap and will monitor the situation.

Is cap a good fit?

A slight groove in each is not a big issue as long as they all wear the same.

Best.

It is a marelli cap but the contact erosion is all on the same side as if the rotor is too far away when the spark jumps but I have checked the alignment with the cap off and using a reference mark on the side of the dizzy and all seems to be in order.  Just another one of those mysteries of Italian electrics I guess?
