Has anyone got any opinions or guidance on the best type of Gearbox Oil for a 1967 Flavia 1800?

I've found this Millers oil that sounds like it would do the job!?

Classic Gear Oil 80w90 - GL4

DESCRIPTION:
* EP Transmission oil to APIGL4 for classic transmissions
* High quality solvent refined mineral base stocks with performance additives.

And now a dumb question... it looks like there is a filler plug on the O/S side of the gearbox, I assume that topping up until this overflows (on level gound) will equate to the correct Max oil level... yeah?

If my memory serves me correctly there is a dipstick on the top nearside of both Flavia and Fulvia gearboxes.

Certainly on fulvia,

just behind the bell housing with graduated levels marked on it.

For my Fulvia five-speed box I have used the Fiat/Selenia synthetic oil that they specify for all the modern Fiat Alfa boxes. It’s marked TUTELA ZC75/80 - I had to pay £7.48 (trade) + VAT a litre a year ago at my local Fiat agent. It pours like water! I doubt you will find better. I am sure this would be good for a Flavia too.

PS. I was confused at first by the gearbox dipstick, the head of which looks like a black plastic cotton-reel!

Thanks for all the tips!

Its so hard to see anything on a Flavia Gearbox and I am quite literally "fumbling in the dark" as I learn my way around the car.

I haven't been able to find any references to the oil capacity of the Gearbox / Diff. Does a standard 5 litre can cover it, or is it like my Thema V6 which always manages to just exceed every standard volume of packaging for automotive consumables!?  Tongue
