Having just received Paul Mayo's excellent Aurelia manual I noticed two suggested changes to the Solex carburettor.

One involves replacing the #230 starter jet with a #180 and the other requires repositioning the pump injectors so they splash against the choke tube rather than directly down the bore.

What symptoms are cured by each and where would one find a #180 starter jet? Can it be soldered up and redrilled or does the solder not provide the proper surface?  Some have suggested a jet from a Solex for another make may be suitable.

Thanks

I had my B12's Solex carburettor rebuilt and stayed with the original jet sizes. Works beautifully.
The idea of redirecting the accellerator jet nozzles was to aid in vapourising the squirt of fuel. A bit academic, I'd say.
Happy motoring.
Brian.

Interestingly there is a well known Italian Aurelia owner who has owned his cars from new (!!!) who says that in his opinion the Solex 40 PAAI is a better carb than the Weber 40 DCL/Z carb when fitted to the 2.5 litre engines.
