Unusual for one to turn up on e-bay, probably a reasonable buy for someone. What's the considered opinion on the "project" value for a car like this? Although I would take "it just needs putting back together" with a pinch of salt  Grin

The one to have had was the drivable B20 at 12K.  It had some oil pressure and the brakes worked and the windows went up and down - very much "a car" rather than a collection of worn and broken parts that may or may not belong togeather.   That was maybe three years ago and a good prospect for someone able to do the work themselves.

I bought mine for only a little more than that with an MOT.  That was Feb 1998 and while there's a perception that Aurelia values are on the rise there's no hard evidence.   It sold in the summer of 2007, I won't say how much for or what I spent but broadly it fitted the rule of thumb that classic cars sell for about half what's been spent on them  Undecided   I had a lot of fun with it and found it an excellent home.   The market in general was pretty much as when I bought - a handfull of cars advertised, all for silly money and in poor mechanical state, and none of them actually selling.

This one on ebay isn't correctly or completely described and, looking at it, just the parts bill could be five figures.  Its got that barn find romance to it, but is little more than "a starting point" for a long and expensive journey.   The other thing with Aurelias, more than most classic cars, is that "fully restored car" can be a complete dog.  Its not simply a case of "time and money" to get right the sliding pillars, engine, prop, brakes, gearbox, driveshaft, wheel bearings.  There's a lot of wrinkles to iron out to get one going really well - but oh is it worth it when it does!!

If I was looking - I'd pass on this one and look for something at least complete and preferably a driving car.  Its not like there's dozens, but they do keep coming up.  When I was looking, and it became clear I was serious, I was able to look at perhaps a car a month.  There's not as many about as ten years ago but if you were seriously "in the hunt" it wouldn't be forever.

That one on ebay isn't a "once in a lifetime" chance to get a project car - and the one you want won't ever be advertised, let alone auctioned.

Used the search facility and got this one - a driveable B20 for 15K in 2000.

Here's a big list of auction results:

The B20 was very nice and at £70,000 plus commission was probably better than leaving money in the bank. If you have any money. The rather forlorn B12 was a better bet at £5,000 as a further £10,000 would see it on the road. However, the Syder was in my mind a heap of rubbish and at £80,000 will still need £100,000 in restoration. When I got home I looked at my lovely Series One Appia in a new light

If I was going to buy something it would be an SIII Appia.  Appias really are beautifully put togeather...

Fingers crossed the Aurelia B12 makes it back to the road in short order.

Two project cars in the US - $12,600 for something that looked complete enough to be a start to a project - for the other was asking $45K for an early car in drivable condition, who knows what it actually went for, if at all...

It made £24,655.55 - so maybe I was wrong and prices ARE very much on the rise...

Just need to keep telling myself "it went to the perfect home, it went to the perfect home, it went to the perfect home".

Interesting to see if it makes the £25k mark again.
Frustrating for the vendor to have to start all over again but that's the joy of ebay compared with a conventional auction house.
Anyone going up to the VSCC Silverstone Spring Start meeting on Saturday 25th - pray for decent weather.

Identity of car is unknown - sourced as result of a Google search.

Nice pic though!

Are you coming along to the Italia Day at Brooklands - hope to see everyone there weather willing.
