Hi

After 28 years of not being driven, I finally got my S1 Fulvia Zagato engine running. Sounds healthy but carbs need tune up idling uneven & high).

The car moved back & forth on a ramp but the pedal was very high. I almost thought there was no clutch. Plenty of pedal pressure.

1) Could it just be a matter of adjusting the clutch?

2) Where is the adjustment?

3) Or, do I have to remove / fit a new clutch pressure plate + clutch + release bearing?

4) Does the engine have to be removed or, can the clutch be removed by dropping the gearbox?

Hi Julian,

I would start by checking the adjustment of the clutch cable in the engine compartment (photo attached).  If the clutch action is at the top of the pedal travel, the cable may be too tight.  Its possible that this was done when the car was put in storage in order to move the clutch plate away from the flywheel, in case it got stuck.

Let's hope it is that simple!

Well I adjusted the clutch (pedal still high before car moves), switched on the engine, engaged the clutch. I heard a grating noise, so I suspect a new clutch.

Would anyone go through the procedure?

Engine out?

Or, just drop the gearbox?

I always drop the gearbox on a Fulvia.
