Using Lancia's nomenclature, Aurelia 1st series vehicles (which essentially means all Aurelias up to and including 4th series B20, B10, B22, B21 & B24 Spider as opposed to Aurelia '2nd series 'which comprise 5th & 6th series B20 and B24S Convertible) use the same internal gears and bearings. However there are several different final drives  - i.e crownwheel and pinion assemblies. - which is generally stamped on the rear underside casing of the transaxle.

Nowadays most gears and internal bearings seem to be available from time to time new from the bona fide spares suppliers but at what I feel is quite a high price and I have some reservations about the quality as compared to OE Lancia transaxle parts which were superbly made.
And to be honest, if one is going to that high expense then why not renew all bearings as the originals are  around 70 years old particularly if swarf and moisture have been circulating around internally for some years. The costs then rise further assuming availability.
In these circumstances I have always felt a good option to investigate is the purchase of a good intact used unit preferably with the correct final drive although this isn't essential as long as the existing crownwheel  & pinion is fit for purpose. Then either the newly bought unit can be fitted complete with new oil seals etc or the internal gears etc can be transferred into the existing casing. This isn't difficult and no special tools are needed. The going rate for a complete replacement transaxle is around £2k and I have a few rebuilt or inspected units available and these are advertised under 'Lancia spares'.
Going through some shelves tidying up last night  I came across the following surplus very good used or new gears which will fit in any '1st Series Aurelia' - ie. B20 up to and including 4th srs, B10, B22, B21 & B24 Spider:
1. 3rd Gears  very good used - # 28 on Tav 31
2. 4th gears very good used  - #29 on Tav 31
3. Reverse gear  - new unused in Lancia packaging  - #23 on Tav 31

Are these of any interest to anyone? Any reasonable offer considered and I will of course provide more photos if required and refund in full if the purchaser is unhappy upon delivery.
