 1972 Coupe 1.3s S2

I'm trying to find the cause of a 'buzzing' noise from the gear stick. It is noticeable in all gears and only lessens if the engine is not under load.
Travelling on a motorway the noise is very loud and can be stopped by applying pressure on the gear knob or stick.
My initial thought was to change the bushings which connect the chrome part of the stick to the lower part, however, I've failed in trying to separate
the two sections as the force required is too much.
I'm guessing it would be much easier if the complete stick was removed by detaching it from the gearbox linkage which I assume requires access from
 under the car.
If I manage to change things and the noise is still there, what would be the next step?
 Thanks.

There was a Lancia bulletin about this, if you look under the car the bottom of the gearstick  connects to a rod end which screws into the bottom of the linkage housing.  Remove the bolt and give the rod end a wiggle, if it feels loose unscrew it and you should find a rubber strip in a slot in the thread, turn this around or replace it and wrap some PTFE tape on the thread and screw it back in and refit the gearstick bolt.
If this does not fix the vibration then the shaft bushes or cup bush are probably worn.

Rod should not wear but bushes do. not an easy job (impossible??) when gearbox is in the car.

I think you cannot remove the gear box with the gear stick in situ so yes but you will need to get under.

Can I at least get to remove the gear stick with the gearbox in-situ?
And check out the bottom boot.

The procedure I described above can be done in situ, prefereably on a ramp, but a jack and a couple of good axle stands will do.

I've removed the gearstick and undone the rod end(12) (which did feel loose), however, there's no rubber strip(32) or slot in the thread? Does the strip fit inside the linkage housing thread? Additionally, would changing the bush(7) be of any benefit?
Never ever had to  change #7.  Also never seen rubber strip. Buzzing down to wear om both #15 bushes and possibly as mentioned before the bottom bolt should be snug so the lever can just operate with out and sticktion..

Try wrapping tape around the rod end thread so it is a snug fit.
