Hi
Going on a 2 week trip down to the Italian Lakes in June and I guess breakdown cover would be advisable for my S1 Sport. RAC quoting £210. I knew it was going to be expensive but I am wondering whether any member has experience of any cheaper options. I simply want breakdown and recovery back to the UK and not all the extras that most policies want to include.
Thanks

You need to be sure you can insist on recovery as the insurance companies have the option to repair at a local garage (ok if something like the alternator but an engine blow up). Most classic car insurances include continental cover so check that.

Full European Cover included with my Adrian Flux policy, as Tim says most classic policy’s cover euro trips.

Even though you may be able to get cover cheaper or may already have it, the idea that you could be recovered from the other end of Europe for £210 is pretty amazing. Had we broken down in Kosovo last summer the costs to get home would have been catastrophic with out AA 5 -Star.

In January I had a little trouble with my bike and the bank provided AA cover didn't include recovery so I had to pay £300 to get from Regents Park to Ruislip! Luckily the other party was at fault so covered the cost.

I second Adrian Flux - they recovered the Lambda from Torino - it took a few weeks but we did get her in the end.    Pretty dam good for about £50 a year.   I think you will find Green Flag much cheaper than AA for all year cover including Europe but I am not so sure about recovery.
