I have been asked by my insurer to fit a security switch to the HF.

No specification other than "a system to disconnect the battery or circuit breaker"

I don't want anything visible or that needs holes drilling - has anybody done something similar ?

Arghhh the dreaded battery isolator. I have one fitted (by the previous owner) my B12 and guess what it isolated me while driving.....

I've had a discarnect fitted for years. Unscrew it in the garage after every trip. Keeps the battery full of life for the Nov-Feb layoff. I wonder if the insurance company would accept it?

I was thinking "discarnect" too or a competition type battery switch which didn't ought to be expensive, should be reliable and could be placed inside the engine bay.

Thought a few times about fitting one of these but I'm pretty sure it won't fit under the original series 1 battery cover, however there is a isolating swith on my basic electronic unit, although I tend to rely on my 'Bloster' steering blocker.

My vote is a basic battery isolator, as much to stop the battery draining as security, and a hidden switch for the fuel pump.  If you have the mechanical fuel pump still then is there an easy way to add an additional switch into the ignition circuit?   I'd rely on it being hidden, but why not add something with a key?

Here's a simple one. Put a relay in the power feed from the ignition switch to the starter relay (if the Fulvia has one?). The signal feed to new relay comes from another circuit, say the sidelight switch, hiding in plain view. So, to get the starter to work you have to turn on the sidelights.

Another easy one is to have the instrument lights switch on with sidelights, then use the panel light switch as a hidden switch in plain sight.
Probably main reason for not fitting an isolator switch is I don't fancy drilling a hole in the bodywork.
I've only ever once had a battery go flat in Fay, and that was after a couple of months not being used, owing to have been in hospital.
Normally, even in the winter she has about a 40 mile run to get everything working and up to temperature, I still have a dynamo which on that sort of trip charges the battery with no problems.

I fitted one of these, main reason was to reduce the risk of fire when in the garage, luckily the Flaminia GT has great battery access unlike the PF. 2min job and cost £5 from a car show.

Thanks everyone - I think I'll go down the "discarnect" route and see if that is sufficient for the insurers

I did something similar on a car of mine once. I wired the fuel pump and fuel gauge through a double switch so if anyone nicked it they would only get as far as the fuel in the float chamber would get them then assume it was out of petrol. The garage hated it because they always forgot to switch on the fuel.
