Could really do with some advice please.
Just at the end of a 4 year restoration on my 66 fulvia coupe s1 1200. Everything is done apart from a problem with kangarooing going forward. Its fine at rest or in reverse. Had new distributor  coil and refurbed  carbs together with an electrIc fuel pump.It doesn't seem to be a fuel problem as we have bypassed the fuel tank.
We're thinking it maybe a dodgy wire as the engine tilts differently on forward and reverse . Any ideas ?

Did you replaced all the engine and gearbox mountings? sounds a bit like drive line shunt which was fairly common in that era of cars,
Something worth considering, even if it isn't your problem.

Kangarooing would normally be caused by some fuel/air issue e.g. a semi blocked fuel filter where at light loads (idle / reverse) things seem okay but at heavier loads not enough fuel can get through. Definitely worth double checking the fuelling and any compromised gaskets.

How severe is the kangarooing? It might be worth me recounting a problem I had many years ago after a service at a well known Lancia specialist. Leaving their premises and everything was fine but not long after there was this bad kangarooing which seemed to rectify itself before happening again. It turned out that one of the threads to a screw for the points had been damaged slightly. Because the points were then not seated properly it was causing some, um, interesting timing issues and the kangarooing.

Original size slow running jets are too small for modern fuels so that may be part of the problem???  Easy enough to increase the size experimentally.

Fulvia815 asked me, via Facebook, to thank those who replied to his question. He has a problem accessing the LMC website due to a problem with the IPhone that he uses for access. I am waiting to hear whether the problem he had has been solved.

I saw his Facebook post....but is his problem resolved I wonder?
My only experience of such an issue was caused by the rear subframe not being attached to the body due to corrosion!

Thanks guys. I'm back on the forum. No the problems are not yet sorted. My mechanic is coming tomorrow and I'll show him the messages. Any other ideas ?

Just taken it out for a short drive. kangarood up to 40 mph and eased off the throttle it runs very sweet. If I put the pedal down it kangaroos again.

any odd noises while "kangarooing"?

Does the throttle feel sticky with or without the engine running?

Many thanks for all the replies. The throttle is not sticky.  No strange noises. Had the carbs rebuilt completely. It is at all rev ranges only when going forward. Sounds great at rest or in reverse. Have bypassed the fuel filter and there is no change.

Yes, but try increasing the "slow" running jets - there are many posts on this already.  Mine are now 60 with great improvement.
