Hi, how do I get a value of a car for insurance purposes?

Its pretty rare so I am finding it difficult to find examples, partly because there are none for sale.

The car in question is a Delta HPE HF Turbo, 1995 in very good condition mechanically, good condition body. No rust, excellent history.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Either HPEHF or GialloHPEIan may be able to help - as they both own one. You're right though, not many ( if any ) for sale recently ( in this country )

I'm hoping HPEHF can provide a value as mine is practically identical to his (minus Recaro's) but help from anyone is always good too!

If anyone is thinking about buying this one,
then i'd recommend going for it.
The owner going by the eBay ad is Stewart Harvey, anyone who knows him will confirm he's an absolute fanatic at looking after his Lancias, and like all the other lancias he's owned, you could have your dinner off the engine☺

Hi

Having owned my 1998 HPE HF Turbo since 2008, insurance has always been a bit of a headache due to the fact that this model doesn't seem to be on whatever database the insurance companies use, as it's not a UK model (import only). My agreed value (with Adrian Flux) is £4500 and has been for about four years. I tried £5000 three years ago, which was refused!
The car listed on eBay was listed last November for the same price with the same seller, so obviously didn't sell at £6995. I have seen several for sale in the UK over the past couple of years from £5000 - £8000 and even a particularly nice black one at £10,995. I don't think any actually sold for their asking prices, which leads me to suspect that buyers are not prepared to pay more than around £5000 max. Of course, there will always be the odd exception and this is only my opinion, based on my observations. There are usually a few for sale on subito.it to give you an idea what they fetch in Italy.
I hope you enjoy your car as much as I enjoy mine, they represent great value for money being a little off the radar so to speak. HPEHF seems to be familiar with most of this particular model in the country if it's been here a while, so he's your man for a definitive answer.

Hello all,
I would agree with Ian re. insuring these cars as a lot of companies don't recognise them! It's not helped when,in my case, the V5C identifies the car as a Delta HF Turbo ie.
However for the past two years I have insured with Classic Line. At renewal last September I took out an agreed value policy with them for £8,000.The car must be garaged at night and I have a limit of 3000 miles a year. They require several good quality photos of exterior, engine bay and interior.

M666 EVO,

I have been insured with Hagerty for the past 4 to 5 year and took up their agreed value part of the package by taking pictures all round, interior and where it was parked.

At first I did it for £5000, and then a couple of years ago raised this to £8,000. There was no questions raised at the first or even at raising the cost only the premium was upped by I think £10.

The problem with most insurance companies it is not on their list and they do not know what it is. Adrian Flux giving me a quote based on a Robin Reliant!!

Unfortunately the Club cannot provide valuations for cars due the mine field this would lead it into, so the only thing you can do is speak to one of the few Lancia dealers to give you a quote if you needed to replace it, and some copies of adverts of cars for sale if they will not take your cost. When I had an accident the assessor was for righting it off due to the damage until he let slip that they would only repair upto 80% of the value of the car and I quoted a greater figure for the accepted works than he was expecting (obviously thinking more main stream cars than something slightly different).

Please feel free to PM or Call number in VL Back page.

Mmmm,

Looks like i'll have to re-assess my valuation come insurance renewal time. Seriously undervalued now by comparison.
Prices for rare and interesting vehicles have certainly crept up these past couple of years.

Thanks a lot for your replies, I too have been massively undervaluing mine though it would seem Angry

I have had it for about 15 years and always found insurance OK, but have always had it valued at £4000. Recently someone hit it in the rear and the garage said it was more than likely going to be a right off due to the fact it is going to cost a lot to repair plus my under valuing will limit what the insurance pay out. Hence asking if I could get a valuation to go back to the insurance company with.

But thanks for the great feed back. If nothing else ill have to argue my corner and make a good case to value the car more towards £6000  Huh?

I wish you luck with your insurance and am sorry to hear of your accident.

The blue one on eBay has now been reduced by £1000 so maybe my observations aren't far off.

Update: the estimate has gone to the insurance company - to the tune of nearly the value of the car!

This should be interesting  Shocked

If they do write it off, more than likely I suspect, then see if you can buy it back and get it restored by a reputable smaller concern, which should be a lot cheaper, but just as good.
Better than hunting around for another if you're happy with what you've got, and why wouldn't you be Grin

I absolutely agree with Brian. Keep the car and ask for cash in lieu of repairs. I have just done this with my daughter's car which was clipped by a drunk driver when it was parked outside our house. Even after deducting the excess it was repaired for less than the payout. I hope the insurance company hasn't taken it into storage because the storage charges are a killer. I lost a barely damaged Peugeot 205 to that trick.
