Hello Appia people,

I have been a member for many years, owning every type of Flavia except the Zagato Sport, and currently have a beautiful 815 Coupe which I will not part with.

However, I am thinking of buying an older Lancia to keep it company, and was considering a Series 3 Appia, due to the fact that it seems to be the most cost effective way to get into the older cars.

So could you chaps give me some advice on what to look for, prices, and any other information that would help, and does anyone live near Colchester who would be kind enough to take me for a drive in an Appia so that I could get an idea of what it is like. I know that sounds a bit of a cheek, but I have never been out in one of the older cars, so want to be sure that it is what I would want.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Hi Bob
Fly down to Carcassonne and try ours ! Daily flights from Stanstead .....

Seriously, they are lovely little cars and I have been very impressed with ours , which as you may know , I bought on a whim to help me understand how to rebuild my furgoncno. The only thing is, I wouldn't describe it as an "older car" , I think that it is as modern and as practical an early Fulvia or Flavia.

There are some really good ones in Italy for 5,000 -10,000 euros, which with the £ as it is, seems very good value. The Appia Consortium is excellent and there are lots of bits available for the berlinas

I think James Parry's 3rd Ser is currently on the road if you want a weekend in Wales

Hi Bob, a great decision to go for an Appia. I always have a big smile on my face when I drive mine.

I live in Westcliff on Sea and would be happy to take you out for a drive, especially if you drove down in the Flavia!! There is an issue with mine at the moment, have a look on the Appia section for the 'Tapping Knocking Noise' thread. I have still not got to the bottom of it, but it is still very driveable and would give you an idea of car.

I agree with Simon about it not being an 'older car'. Its feel and performance belie its looks.

Please feel free to get in touch, e mail, PM or 07900 266985.

Best wishes,

                Andy

I shall be taking my Series 1 to MITCAR (Midlands Italian Car Day) at Deene Park in Northamptonshire in a couple of weeks time (16th August); you'll be welcome to sample it there...

Simon/Mike,

Thanks for the kind offers of a drive in your cars, but as Andy is so close to me I have contacted him, and am hopefully going down to his later this week to have a go in his car.

After that, I will hopefully be in a position to decide if I want to pursue the idea further.

Thanks guys,

Bob

Earlier this afternoon I saw and listened to a light beige 3rd Series Appia saloon with a newly rebuilt engine in really excellent condition bodily. Its for sale near Milan with an asking price of €12k but this is certainly negotiable.  The cars interior looks to be original and is in good condition. Its not advertised yet and I have no connection to the seller.
A good buy for someone I would say.
Drop me a pm if you think you could be interested. I have a couple of poor photos (due to the bright sunlight) of the car which do not do it justice.

Chris,

Thanks for the message.
I have also been contacted by Charles Shelton regarding one owned by Martin Buckley, so am currently waiting to hear back from him.

Thanks anyway.

Regards,

Bob
