Title: Fulvia wiring question
Post by: simonandjuliet on 12 November, 2017, 02:33:59 PM
I have a slightly irritating wiring issue - I'm probably not the only one, however has anyone come across this problem before ??

When the ignition key is in the ST position (first position where the key can be removed and steering lock on) the generator light and ignition circuits are on all the time - this should be the "safe" position

If you turn the key to the next position GAR you can remove the key but no steering lock and no generator light etc - so I can use this position to remove the key

Next 2 positions are OK ie where MAR energises all the circuits and key cannot be removed (ie driving position) and then the final starter motor turning position AVV

I have checked the wiring to the barrel and the connector block behind the dash and all seems OK

I tried switching over a couple of wires, but it just meant that I couldn't stop the engine (!)

It does look as if the steering lock may have been changed in the past so is the problem likely to be here ??

Any ideas appreciated before I start poring over wiring diagrams .... Thanks

The anti theft is nothing to do with the electrical switching of the ignition switch. ST should be all off (save for cigarette lighter and clock on 1.3's) as you suspect, not on.

Original wiring to back of ignition switch
Rosso --> 50    (2.5)
Brown (Marrone) ---> 30  Fatter wire.... (4.0)
Black  ---> INT  (1.5)
blue/black ---> 15/54  (2.5)

On many S2 coupes I have seen the steering lock/switch has been replaced with a similar (though not identical) unit from Fiat 127. Andrea

Thanks Andrea, I have a spare in Hartlepool (back at Christmas) so I will try that one if it has a key !

My feeling is that it is the unit, not the wiring but I need another unit to try to be sure. For the time being I am living with it !

Also ckeck the fuses haven't moved in the holder, the two on the left can touch and replicate exactly what you're describing.
