Title: Only an idiot would install a 2 post lift in these temperatures!
Post by: chriswgawne on 07 August, 2017, 04:04:51 PM
Earlier this year I was quite happily lying under my 1st Series B20 changing a pot joint rubber  and also rebuilding the rear brakes due to leaking rear wheel cylinders ( the car had been away for a full strip and repaint for over 18 months and the lack of use for this length of time often leads to rear wheel cylinder -problems which move very little anyway) when I inadvertently dropped a very long socket ratchet and scaffold pole on my right eyebrow.
The pain was great, the blood was greater and quite dramatic and Jacky then insisted I order the 2 post lift (exactly as Simon's) I had been muttering about for a couple of years. I should have had stitches but some sticky tape seemed to work although I have a new scar to show for it.
It duly arrived about a month ago and my neighbour forklifted it off the truck bringing it here a couple of weeks ago when we were ready to begin the installation.
Only a fool would try to do such work in the temperatures we have had here for the last couple of weeks -  its been > 40deg C every day for most of the day - but I am pleased to say that it is now in place and ready for use.
Even though it is in what is simply a domestic garage of normal height, I believe by moving a light I will have an added bonus of an extra indoor car parking space by putting one of our 'low' cars either on the lift or underneath and the thought of not having to lie on the floor anymore is really rather exciting.
The lift seems to be remarkable value and well made and my only criticism is the quality and strangeness of the installation instructions but we managed. The only other problem I had was a concern about my floor (which whilst ceramic tiled and modern was not strictly rated for the full 3,500kg which the lift can raise so there was extra work to do there under the cautious eye of our 'geometra' ( sort of architect/civil engineer) who oversaw all the work on building our house and garage here some 10 years ago.
So I am now drawing up a list of car jobs on our Lancias and other cars using the lift to keep me quiet during the winter after our grape and olive harvests.

Jealous does not even start to describe it!!!

However, I must say that I consider you more than deserve it when I think of the work that you have done on your various cars over the years!!!

Enjoy!!!!

Completely concur with Simon - you will not regret it Chris. Every time I use mine I lament the many years I neglected to take the plunge and install one even if only to have it outside in the garden!
