Post by: rogerelias on 03 February, 2017, 10:45:24 PM
Hello all. whats the torque settings for the cylinder head bolts on a 1600 HF , i have changed them for allen head bolts, seem to remember Peter Gerrish doing this mod so you can torque them down a little more.

Hi Roger

Peter suggests 23lb/ft and if with a good quality gasket re tighten in 2 - 3000 miles when you recheck valve clearances. Don`t forget to thoroughly clean out the threads first to stop the bolts bottoming out in the block. He also suggests lightly oiling the mating surfaces. Personally I lightly coat head gaskets on aluminium blocks with copper spray grease to help them seal.
I hope I`m not preaching to the converted.

Use of 12.9 Cap bolts I use 25ft lb in easy stages and return the following day to recheck. This was from Paul Leclerq who like Peter has built many a reliable Fulvia engine. Use the original dowel bolts to locate the head and start gently as per bolt pattern then replace the dowel bolts with the cap bolts...
