Title: Overpriced Kappa?
Post by: srawlins on 01 November, 2016, 10:01:54 AM
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lancia-Kappa-20v-Turbo-coupe-0-former-owner-LHD-ship-worldwide-extensive-history-/162251044485?hash=item25c6ea7685:g:qD8AAOSwB09YDKrA

I noticed this on eBay recently. It is quite a strange listing - almost aggressive?

Anyway, it appears from the https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/  (T854GNM) site  that the car does not have an MOT - but does have a lot of problems.....primarily it is rotten!

I feel the seller is being overly optimistic  ;)

Agreed! It is a bit strange as the previous owner according to the number plate did not live in London??

Thanks for the heads up on the Govt MOT website, I didn't know such a thing existed. As for the car, it looks somewhat overpriced even if it was perfect! I'll watch the show though if it airs!

Looks like the corrosion problems have been there for there last 6 years on that site.

It looks like the ex Peter Watcham car, that I believe was free to anyone who would take it away a few months ago, due to corrosion. Clue is in the service history book that shows stamps from a garage in Harpenden where he lives, so basically the seller is trying to make a fast buck, out of someones generosity.

I have asked if he will post a picture of the MOT certificate.

Yes
It is Peter's Old Kappa, which he confirmed at out monthly meeting in Hitchin last night.
First I've heard that he's a Doctor, and he certainly doesn't live in London, although it did come from Germany.
Amazing how people dream up histories, I suspect Peter gave a full history when he sold it, shame he let the manuals in English go with it though.

The seller is the "second owner" since Peter! Its a bit like the junk bond market....

The response to my request for a picture of the MOT certificate was "Thecar comes with 12 months mot on sale.
It has been pre mot'd needing only wiper blades and light bulbs".

I think it is a bit cheeky to jack the price up quite so far in a couple of months.......

I do wonder how the seller would justify that?

I also think the photos are lifted from the original seller's listing....which is somewhat dubious.

Hi

I would say it is all down to what sellers think they can get away with and what folk are prepared to pay.

Given the previous statements, well worth avoiding at any price would be my view.....

Peter

Original Seller was Peter Watcham who lives in Harpenden, so I suspect this is whoever bought it from Peter.
But I agree with Andy, sounds a bit of how long is your bargepole. ::)

And who did Peter a favour - and incidentally is a also a member. Unsure of the current vendor status......

I got the impression this is the second owner since Peter they having "bought" the car for the TV show. Perhaps the person who got it from Peter did the welding that was needed? It is still a garbled and misleading advert though.
