Does anyone do it themselves? If so where is the oil filter and how do you get to it?

So far my Ypsilon is fulfilling it's target of costing the same/less to run than the ancient Polo that it replaced - Road tax (cheaper), MPG and insurance (exactly the same!), but this could all come a bit unstuck if it has to go the the Fiat (Jeep!!??) dealer for a service.

This was an hour or so's job on the Polo, and the filter was right in front of you when you opened the bonnet, with a big hex on it so it could be easily removed with a spanner.

I did my 1.3 JTD easily enough, it was at the front of the engine under a plastic cover (if my memory serves me ...)

Service on your 1.2 Ypsilon is a doddle and should take less than an hour. The oil filter is bottom left front as you are looking at the engine from the front of the car (easily got at from under the car)  and air filter is in the big plastic box on top of the engine.

Where you might get stuck is in resetting the service indicator. It can only be reset by software. You can download the MultiEcuScan from http://www.multiecuscan.net/ (http://www.multiecuscan.net/) but the free version won't reset the service interval so you'll have to pay to activate the software. You then need to buy the correct cables to connect your computer to the car. So you'll have an initial cost of about £50 just to reset the service warning but you will have full functioning diagnostic software. There well may be a simpler/cheaper tool to reset the service interval but I haven't found it.

Of course you can always remind me to bring a laptop and the cables at the next Committee meeting and I can reset it for you free of charge  ;)

No service light yet, but it might come on next month I guess (so I may be taking you up on your offer at the next meeting Theo!).

The car's computer can tell you when the next service is due (by mileage not by time). Press SET then use the UP/DOWN arrows to find SERVICE and press SET to show you how many miles to the next service. Manufacturer service intervals are a very long 30,000 KM (18,600 miles) on the 1.2 8V engine. The diagnostic software can also tell you when the last service was performed, assuming it was done by a garage that had the required equipment and software to set the service date.
