Title: Fulvia Roof Puzzle
Post by: nthomas1 on 04 August, 2016, 08:32:47 PM
Now that I've got the windscreen out of my S2 Coupe, I’ve taken the headliner out and removed the five rods that kept it in place.  They were all rusted and stuck to the fabric so removing them caused the pockets in the headliner to split. Not an issue as I’m planning to install a new headliner.  I used an abrasive disk to get rid of the rust and heavy pitting on the rods - see first picture.  I’ve done 3 out of the 5, and will do the other 2 and give them all a coat of primer and paint in the next few days.  I scraped the old sound deadening from the roof with a scraper blade on my multi-tool.  Nasty stuff, a bit like soft tarmac, but it’s all gone now.

The puzzle I refer to is illustrated in the second and third pictures.  There are two strips screwed into the roof above the windscreen (picture 2) and a short strip screwed into the roof above the rear window (picture 3).  Can anybody tell me their purpose?

Hi Norm

I have no experience of this but are`nt they the same profile as the rods and maybe position the first and last rods into their respective places and in doing so keep the headlining taught?

Just a thought.

John

Thanks John - sounds entirely plausible.  As far as I can recall the "U" shapes are about the right size for the rods.  I'm out tomorrow but will take a look at the location hole positions on Saturday.
Cheers, Norm

Certainly look like they're for the front and rear list rods.

Believe this is correct.

Yes they locate the headlining rods next to the front and rear screens.
