I have not seen the show, but I think the Flavia looks good in the photos

"Extensively restored for the TV series 'CAR SOS' (2014-5) at an estimated cost of c.£40,000"

A hefty hit being sold for 1/2 price, the £200K Flaminia restoration price tag mentioned in Chris's post,  is eye watering by comparison though!

Its does look very smart in maroon...not that I'm biased in any way.

I think the value for money comes in getting a TV show out of it. I have an impression that they weren't searching for the most cost effective options which probably would be down to the production schedule.

I bought it.  Went there looking for something else but the heart took over.  There was a very annoying telephone bidder who kept going.  Everyone in the room was out at 16k which i'd have been very happy with but never mind.

She's a lovely car but seemed like the steering was wandering so I had her in to my local classic specialist last week and the front suspension is dangerous - ball joints have gone.  There are some other niggles that I would have expected but I will be on the phone to H&H this coming week.  The mechanic couldn't believe it would have passed its MOT in May.

Congratulations RWP, I suppose there are MOTs and there are MOTs! Wondering how recent was it?

I don't know if you'd have much come back but I suppose its how dangerous it actually was, let us know how you get on.

I enjoyed the show and it looked like the work was all done properly.  It certainly looks a million dollars and after a short phase of teething issues hope it gives you many reliable years of service, or if not some adventures and interest !!!

The one item that jumped out the photos at me was the Flavia badge on the dash with blue and yellow stripes.  Is it something I've forgotten or not seen before...  It reminded me of the Sweedish flag which is correct for colours but they have a yellow cross on blue not stripes.

Nice looking car which doesn't look as if it was ever very sad or rusty. In my experience one ALWAYS find things wrong or not done properly after purchase almost whatever the age of the vehicle and these days I am inclined quite often to actually take apart things on a recently purchased car which purport to have been sorted just for peace of mind. If worn ball joints is all you find then I would say that you have done very well.

Very nice looking car, but as the MOT is only good for the day it's issued I'd agree with Chris.
But do use it as I'd love to see it at sometime.

It is a beautiful car. The only thing I remember mentioning after the programme aired was the colour of the wheels. I think it was agreed they would originally have been cream.

The flag on the dashboard is the colours for the region in Italy that Turin lies in. You see competition Fulvias with body stripes in these colours. Whilst you are putting the wheels back to the correct cream colour (see Brian Hilton's Fulvia Sedan post) the oil cooler radiator should be black not body colour too. Also I think the wood trim round the instruments could do with much better lacquer. Still these are little things that could give you great satisfaction in bringing the car up to the mark as an absolutely superb example.

I believe that some later Flavia coupes came from the factory with body coloured wheels.  My 66 Flavia Iniezione (Lancia Blue) has body coloured wheels and I have seen a few other blue coupes with the same scheme.  Although I have never seen a colour other than blue or the ivory/white.

Quick update.  I think the basic message is - if Car SOS have restored your car take it apart and start again  ;D

Numerous problems found over past couple of months that should have been part of a professional restoration.  Aside from the front suspension which moved a couple of inches laterally when we had the car up in the air the brakes failed twice while the car was being tested.  Servo fitted wrongly etc etc.

But when you have an Italian wife you get to take this kind of thing in your stride  :D

Still she is sorted now so just some fettling to do in the summer and especially the wheel colour.

And a friendly call to HandH to see if i can get something back for my trouble.

Speaking of the wheels i have different period photos of the flavia with plain and cream wheels - anyone know if there was a standard configuration?

nice to know it is getting sorted. The cream is avorio antico. Not sure when this was stopped in favour of silvery grey?

Even the programme itself gives the impression that things are rushed, and the main objective is how the car looks.

Although I mentioned the maroon wheels at the time, when I watched the repeat I noticed when they lifted the spare out it was already maroon. This disproved my initial thoughts that they'd used up some leftover paint. It was mentioned elsewhere that this was a factory finish on some.

We had the wheel colour discussion a while ago and I think the conclusion was that body colour was an option. Cream would be my preference though.

I don't know if they just like Lancias, at Car SOS , but they had another red Flavia/2000 coupe outside when I drove past yesterday. Couldn't  stop to get a closer look.

I also noticed in the opening titles of some that there was a Fulvia in the workshop.
