Title: Upload File
Post by: fay66 on 01 November, 2007, 10:09:52 PM
For a week now I've been unable to upload any photos :o I get the message Error, upload file full, send smaller file or resend later.

All the file have been within the KB limit, so I don't know what to think, doesn't seem like it's me, but ???

Brian,  I had the same problem a few weeks ago, when I tried to attach photos of Lancia support vehicles for Lee (mailed them directly to Lee in the end), I sent a mail to Rodders to investigate, I assume the problem had been resolved as subsequent pictures had been pasted forum, may be not then!  Neil

Thanks Neil,
I know Scarpia also had a problem, I tried to email Rodders but for some reason it bounced ???

I am still unable to place any file on the forum after a couple of weeks of trying. As I see other pictures placed in the meantime eg the fulvias of angelorange it may be user related;is there a capacity per user for example that might be exceeded? I know well enough how to upload pictures so I'm certain i'm doing it right.
The error message remains the same as described by Brian. The page is

I'm afraid the truly technical stuff has to be answered by Rodders, and I think he's fairly tied up at the moment. Please bear with us.

tied up? at least we know what his other hobby is then! ;)

On the subject of ‘uploading’.

For photos this usually seems to work OK, although I haven’t seen any recent photos posted up by angelorange (as referred to by Scarpia). However, the 124 KB size limit is a bit low and if this could be raised to 200 KB I think it would make things much clearer.

My real problem is with text. I would like to be able to post extracts from old LMC Journals and other sources, and I have it in mind that the Warby Annex could be a good place for such things. But, whenever I have tried scanning in say a half-page of A4 text it ends up by being either too big, or just not legible. Does anyone know what is the optimum form and/ or compression method to use for such scans?

More things to follow – I hope,

Colin

Colin,
as you mention being able to upload photo's without any problem can you attempt a random test upload.I cannot upload files (photo's, text or even items of general abuse) of any size at all for some time already. Previously I had no problem placing photo's up to the  125 kb limit but this of course is insufficient to see a document or such like in detail.I always have to try a couple of times to get a file just under the 125kb limit by playing around with the dimensions.

I was refering to the photo's of the 1600hf brands hatch photo's from Angelorange which I thought was posted last week.

Hmm. I've found where to amend the file limit and have doubled it to 256KB. I'll just drop a note to Rodders and check we won't melt the server...  :)

Scarpia and co,

The latest photo that I can see from angelorange is from June 2007. I posted one on 30 October (balancing V engines). I have just scratched around among the many delectable images that I have access to, and tried to post one that you all might have enjoyed, but it failed to go. Hey ho...

Colin,
it may prove my point technically but I can't help feeling relieved .Who knows what hairdressing abominations we have now been spared.Long may the upload folder remain full I say.....

Scarpia,

Absolutely no! For the time being I have finished with all that cult of the personality stuff. Until I am provoked again, for me it’s all down to the delights of technical ingenuity, fine engineering and the pleasures to be had from wonderful cars.

More soon, hopefully with pictures, or text!

No need, Geoff. They're already published on Lawrence's site...

For those of us who live a sheltered life, please give us a link to Lawrence’s site. That is, only if you think it will not deprave and corrupt us. After all, there is enough of that stuff around here as it is.

Yet another test!

Title: Re: Upload File

Hi everyone

OK - the issue is that somewhere in the forum software there's a limit to the number of attachments that can be stored.  Far as I can see it's nothing to do with file sizes or picture sizes, just the length of the list of attachment filenames the software can process.  This has nothing to do with the amount of data we can store, and if I access the attachments directory another way (from outside the forum) I can put as much stuff in it as I like.

While I try and find a permanent solution I've removed all attachments prior to 1 July 2007, which has freed up some space in the file list and, as you can see above, allowed me to post pics again.  Don't worry, I've only moved the older attachments to another place, they're still around!

I'd suggest the proper solution to this might be a picture gallery, then file size and dimensions would be irrelevant.

Wow, does it take all those bottles of cleaning fluids to keep a Montecarlo looking smart?

So, for a test here’s one from me. This is ‘my’ B20 when raced by Colin Ryan in the ‘70s and when it ran under a different registration number.

Any guidance on text attachments would still be appreciated.

Colin

Have you tried scanning your doccy using OCR software?  If it works (which depends on font and quality of the original) you end up with a text file instead of a jpeg or gif

by way of a test , you've seen the lancia motorcycle, now for the one manpower version;

and if memory serves, Lima once suggested cycling through his home town in a matching shell suit if he had a lancia bike. A spectacle that probably justifies clubbing together I'd say...

Title: Re: Upload File

Do you mean that as "collectively contributing funds to a common purpose" or "many assailants simultaneously beating with clubs"?   :D

Title: Re: Upload File
Post by: Scarpia on 07 November, 2007, 05:08:48 PM
If we do the former, it will inevitable justify the latter.

fortunately, I don't think the bike is available for sale which neatly avoids the problem. Put the clubs away lads....

Tmuth was kind enough to supply some of these photos already ( strictly for personal use you understand)

unfortunately the thread was removed because it challenged the accepted norms for common decency.

Fine Rodders but how do we go about getting a Picture Gallery set up ???
Although that isn't completely the answer if you want to attach a photo or two relevant to the posting.
