Title: Freeze crack on block of Fulvia 1.3S
Post by: peterhedge on 18 April, 2016, 05:11:13 PM
Hi all,

I'm new to the forum so go gentle on me !

My son and I have bought a 1.3S 'project' engine and knowingly it had a freeze crack in the block (a common problem apparently). We already have a complete 1.3S on the road which we restored several years ago.

I've been advised that the best repair method is stitchwelding but have been quoted £500 for the repair (so far). I see there's a complete engine and gearbox on ebay at the moment for around £250 so perhaps I should buy another one !

I have attached a photo of the damage

Does anyone have any good contacts or know of a cheaper reliable repair alternative ?

Many thanks for reading, Peter

Many thanks for everyone's help have now sourced a replacement block. In the sunlight (what's that I hear you say) I spotted that the top surface also had a hairline crack in it - think it's had its day !
