An excellent idea in principle Brian.

However, I feel that there is a way in which the two dachschund model may be improved. The dachschund model works very well when one is rolling around on the floor underneath a vehicle, a perfect height for delivery of tools. Consider now the working under the bonnet situation .... it is a long way to bend down to dachschund level to select a spanner. There are two ways that this issue may be addressed .... put the dachschund under the bonnet or get a higher dog. (I did consider a dachschund on stilts, but I think that may be too unstable).

So, pros and cons of these options ....

The dachschund under the bonnet requires no capital outlay, but there are ongoing costs of frequent visits to the dog parlour for shampooing to remove various oils, brake fluid, grease etc from the beast's coat. I know little about dogs, but have assumed they are not machine washable!!

The higher dog option will probably require an initial capital outlay, although an appropriate sized rescue dog may be available. There will be the the usual ongoing upkeep costs of an additional beast. High dogs do tend to be more expensive to run than low ones and this could be a major consideration.

So, there we have it, a great idea, but could be improved on, albeit at a cost!!!

                                                  Andy

PS do you think I should try to get out more?

I have two daschunds as well, lovely dogs, but they can get up to mischief!  Although one has had a bad back problem so his spannering days are over I think!

Andy,
This one would be ideal for bonnet level work on small cars!

Nothing a few cable ties around the legs and rubber feet wouldn't improve ;D
