Post by: sparehead3 on 24 November, 2015, 09:00:26 PM
The London Classic Car Show is the must attend event for any discerning classic car owner, collector, expert or enthusiast. The 2016 Show will bring together an international celebration of the very best dealers, manufacturers, car clubs and products and is nearly double the size of the 2015 event. It also features an indoor driving runway where iconic classic cars are fired up and driven. See, hear and smell these beautiful classics in action!

NEW for 2016, Car Club Square will showcase a specially curated display of mouth-watering prestige and performance classics from the big six car producing nations. Evoking the ambience of a 1960s British Motor Show the Club Paddock will also feature appropriate dealer stands and retro entertainment.

NEW for 2016 Our new Classic Corner will offer the chance to engage with dozens of classic car experts across the weekend.

For the LMC members' only ticket offer see : http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8467.0

I went to the London Classic Car Show today. It's very small compared to the NEC with two halls, a small one with car clubs and a large one with dealers and trade displays. However the quality was very high, it wasn't too crowded and I thought the lighting was better than the NEC. Lancia content was minimal but there was a fine display of Group B rally cars with an engineless S4 and a Safari 037. Overall it was a worthwhile day out.

Pictures to follow when I have the file size sorted out.

The Club was invited to have a stand but fairly late in the day and for a significant payment (shows are normally free to exhibitors, other than electric etc.), so the Committee declined. After all, the clubs are providing what the punters come to see1

If it's a good show perhaps we would reconsider, though they would have to drop the fee I think.

I would say it is very much a commercial show. Maybe if it becomes more established that might change but it did mean the quality was high.

I agree with Frank that this was very much a commercial show. I would think three quarters of the cars there were for sale. The dealer exhibitors were reputable ones, but the nature of their participation gave a rather mainstream slant to what was on show. I lost count of the Porsche 911s.
There was a paddock that one could not enter, containing more interesting cars that were driven up and down a board roadway in the middle, but there was no such activity going on when I was in the hall.
Apart from the rally Lancias, there was also a B24S spyder with with wire wheels, which might give a flavour of things. I was impressed, most unfavourably however, by a 4 1/4 litre Bentley done up to resemble a 540K Mercedes-Benz, beautifully executed and utterly pointless and, dare I say it, vulgar.
I enjoyed myself none the less and there were a lot of people there. Plainly there is a demand for such things in London.

Ciao a tutti
Cesare

Think the Bentley must be the one on sale near my sister. She sent me some photos of the Bentley 'Count Trossi' Roadster. Obviously expensive but far cheaper than I had imagined - now I know why - it has no real history. I thought it had been built in period by the same coachbuilder.

Cesare, I agree, different but worth it. I get a bit fed up with all the "fancy dress" club stands at the NEC when I compare it with pictures of Retromobile, Essen etc. I am happy to see a limited range of cars as a trade off against quality of display. I didn't see the Aurelia but 5 Gordon Keebles and 3 Mercedes 600's was impressive.

Sadly I don't seem to be able to post any photos because Windows 10 does not contain an image resize facility and my old computer won't talk to the camera's SD card.

It might be worth trying Irfanview - I am not sure whether it will work with Windows 10 as I have it with my old computer and Windows 7. It is a free download and really very simple to use to resize a photo - if you can get it on and open your photo - its just ctrl R and you get a set of options, and to 'save as' is ctrl S. Good luck.

I have been using this image resizer for Windows 10 with no issues for several months now.

Free to download also.

I thought I might add a non Lancia picture illustrating the general quality of cars and displays. Note that even the hub spinners have been aligned perfectly horizontal.

Makes me wonder if the organiser sets up the stand for you, hence the charge? It was about £1500, so still not convinced it would be a good spend of Club funds when NEC and Manchester are free.

You also have the potential issue of getting your car there in winter conditions.

Neil

That was the basis of their offer as they wanted every stand to look the same - to try to achieve the the Earls court Motor show effect. Much of the cost was printing the stand banners. In the end with only a few weeks to go they dropped the price to c£800 but it was too late to organise.

I would be interested if anyone has some photos to see what effect they achieved.

Apart from flying the flag for members south of Watford Gap is there is any demand for the club to attend next year? Discuss......

Nice one Ian ! I just use "paint" but this looks much better to resize big pictures ...

I've created a link for anything else that's useful : http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8722.0

The Earls Court look was for the club hall I think. My impression was that it was a little sparse but the concept is good. Also the quality of exhibits was exemplary. It would be nice to think we could be part of that but it does sound expensive.
