Title: Lancia-based single seater
Post by: williamcorke on 09 July, 2015, 08:59:13 AM
This single-seater just popped-up on Facebook, sold unfortunately, but it looks interesting and like it would have been a fun thing to own!

I can make out a sliding pillar front axle, what looks like a quite sophisticated tubular spaceframe (seen in the cockpit). Not sure what's going on with the rear suspension... All in all, it looks very professionally built.

Description from the ad:

We just found this Lancia in a barn in Switzerland
It has swiss papers showing Lancia AURAELIA Identity. This must be the remains of the original car. Apprently it was raced for hill climbing in the sixties.
It is fitted with a Flaminia engine.

The sale includes 2 engines. One Aurelia B12 2.3L and a Flaminia 2.5

This is a project that needs total restauration. No doubt it will become a head turning car in front engined cars meetings.

The ad is here http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C490687# (http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C490687#)

Who can tell us more about this car? There was another Aurelia-based single seater for sale a couple of years ago, but that was different in many ways (it was rear-engined for a start and lacking rear bodywork).

SIII Aurelia rev counter?

Could be, it's hard to say with the fuzzy pic's.

The wheel looks '60s to me. I don't think Nardi started to 'dish' them until then.

There are all sorts of specials built on Lancia components. This one looks really nice with a sort of mini D50 look to it.

Looks more 250F to me (in body shape and proportion).

Has a little bit of everything. Looks a bit Ferrari 500ish too. Now if you fitted pannier tanks...............

Just received this months "La Manovella" - the magazine of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano.
I have scanned and attached a page that briefly mentions the Lancia D50.
The caption on the photo says something along the lines of.......

The Lancia D50 that opened the parade.
This car in 1955 has won the last GP of the Valentino and is now part of the Fiat Lancia collection.
At the wheel is curator Raffaele Terlizzi.

Yes I agree with the 250 F and Ferrari 500. I was just going for a Lancia reference.

How about a Dagrada Lancia with Fulvia power?
