Title: Ben type transmission discs. Post by: davidwheeler on 08 September, 2014, 04:09:23 PM I have just fitted mine (two "slim" one "thick") and the slight vibration between 50 and 60 mph has gone. This now means there is no constraint on how fast I drive, alas! Now, how about a solution for those dreadful silentbloc traction rod ends, Ben?

I have heard of rose-joints being used as alternatives, but I believe it is essential to have the limited flexibility provided by the rubber in the bushes, otherwise something might snap.
The photo shows a much later and seriously cost-reduced alternative arrangement whereby the track rod and drop-arm link have plain bushes. In this example the sliding pillar suspension has been further modified to reduce wheel deflection to zero and dispense with springs completely so as to reduce un-sprung weight as well as cost. I gather this gives a very direct ‘feel’ to the steering, which is probably OK, but only for competition use. Not that this is of much bother to this young driver, who is as much concerned with gathering clothes pegs. Colin Title: Re: Ben type transmission discs. You are right – there is a team and the rope gets used to help with hill climbs. The team also work together to do the pit stops and driver changes. This pair specialise in downhill events - something like stock-car racing. Unfortunately, the vehicle (retrieved from the dump) didn't survive more than a few runs and we are looking for a replacement.
