Title: 2000hf Bad Smell
Post by: Justin McArdle on 19 June, 2014, 03:09:18 PM
Coming back from the Goodwood trackday with wife and the two kids in the car we experienced an obnoxious odour (bad eggs etc)  in the car. Having checked each other's expressions for any guilty looks we decided it must be the car. At one stage I wondered if we had trapped a live animal against the exhaust pipes.
Anyhow, didn't have another occurrence until driving to Norfolk last week to collect some bits from Omicron on the way to collect my mother in law in Norwich. Stopped to fill up and the smell was back with a vengeance. Drove to Omicron  and asked them to investigate. With the bonnet up the culprit was revealed - a sizzling (brand new) Yuasa battery. The battery had to be removed and placed in cold water to cool it down. Anyhow, the real culprit was the failed voltage regulator which was pumping too much charge into the battery. One new regulator later and a cooled down battery and all was well again.
Thought I would share in case anyone else might have a similar experience.

Luckily you were in the right place to find a new regulator - hopefully sorted
