Title: Bonnet hinge - needs help
Post by: MaciekPeda on 05 June, 2014, 09:08:31 PM
Hi,
How to safely separate bonnet hinge from bonnet halves ?
I want hinge rechromed.
Or maybe leave such is ?
Any advice, please

Mine is spot welded and has never been chromed.   I have painted it same colour as the bonnet.  Take out the hinge pin and make sure there is enough clearance so that the paint is not scraped off again!

I will post a picture later, but mine (2nd ser) is in 2 pieces with a knob to slide the front section back out of the retaining clip on the radiator. Unfortunately it is seized so I have to unscrew the bracket every time.

I mention this because if you attempt to push/knock out the pin, you may damage it because I suspect that there is a spring or something between the 2 sections. I cannot be sure because the Tavola does not show it and I have never dismantled one

augusta is similar , we scrapped the original hinge and replaced with a stainless steel after market hinge

I have just had my bonnet off to touch up the paint and I find the hinge is indeed plated after having scraped off many years and many layers of paint.  One lives and learns.
