I'm still waiting for mine in the wide brown land, but it sounds like it won't be long...  Might be here before the latest albums by Elbow and Metronomy, anyway...

I think Sebastien was just having a little European joke! - but I'm sure it will be worth it when it comes.....

Bookless here, but don't mind, as look as the long lead in time doesn't mean I've been forgotten about or my order lost

Adrian,

Swiss do not play jokes too much, especially no "european" jokes!
(Although I am not swiss, I live there!)

Here is the proof!

And I must say, it provides for addictive reading! I have been an LMC member since 1984, and the book brings many persons I either then knew or heard about, to vivid life again! Most enjoyable, and well worth the wait - it wont be long now....

Just to clarify, the UK post is much slower than international post. All should be dropping through doors in a few days. (well may be literally due to size).

Patience is a virtue possessed by many Lancisti!!

Mine hasn't arrived yet but I'd reckon it's the service area of the '85 RAC rally. Went to see the Donington stages, debut of the S4, ferocious!

Yep, quick google and Toivonen's winning car is #6 on the left.

If you didn't order it by last September (the last form in VL) it will be £40. Details of how to order books not from the 'original batch' will be issued after initial orders have been fulfilled I think.

John, don't let the delay get to you....keep using the worry beads, single shots of malt whiskey are always better than doubles in this sort of situation......;)

P

Title: Re: The Book
Post by: the.cern on 07 March, 2014, 05:11:48 PM
Frank, I agree about the whisky ............. you just forgot to advise that single shots should be taken at twice the rate of doubles !!!!

To complete the picture, I am without book and running out of whisky !!!

For me it is always the same, the anticipation of a book or a magazine is all part of the enjoyment, it will come soon enough ...

Title: Re: The Book
Post by: Kevin MacBride on 08 March, 2014, 12:16:45 AM
It does exist !!   I was reading a copy only last Saturday. Belonging to a friend in the Club over here, his copy arrived a short while ago.
Regarding delivery of stuff (and apologies for going off topic, but this may be relevant)
We here in Ireland (apart from the 6 counties), don't use postcodes (although I believe they are on the way). We depend on postmen/women who basically know everybody. And the mail rarely fails to arrive (specially bills !!)
I recently ordered a part from Cavalitto. I gave my home address, rather than my work. No sign of the parcel after a week, so I tried the tracking (UPS) number. It stated that they could not find my address, as it was not on the 'building register'. I never even knew something like that existed. Anyway, I contacted UPS by phone, and spoke to firstly a nice polite woman (who had a distinct 'eastern' tone to her voice, and who could not pronounce any one word of my name or my address. She informed me that they would be unable to deliver the package, as my address 'did not exist'. Despite me assuring her that it did (I was in it at the time), she transferred me to an equally polite man (mid European accent) who would let me change the delivery address, to my place of work (which was on this 'building register'). Delivery promised within 3 days.
It, at this stage would have been quicker for me to fly to Italy to pick up the part personally.
Anyways.....the following day I got a postcard....from UPS....informing me that they were sorry, but they could not deliver my package to my home address, and for me to contact them by phone. Obviously the postcard had been sent before I rang them re the tracking number.
I simply could not resist....so I rang them back, and asked to speak to a supervisor (a UK accent) and I asked him how was it possible, for UPS to send me a postcard to an address that did not exist, informing me that they could not deliver a package to the same address on the postcard (as it did not exist).
He apologised and ordered the possible excuse that the Irish Postal Service were simply better at knowing local addresses. So, I asked him, why didn't they simply post me the package, after all, the name of your company is The United Postal Service........at least he saw the funny side of it.

Post by: Parisien on 08 March, 2014, 05:28:55 AM
I had dealt with UPS only the once Kevin, it was an important letter to the USA.

They had obviously consulted the OED to ensure they got the meaning of the word ineptness exactly right and then made sure to put it into practice on each leg of its journey, its cost me a couple of hundred quid (20 yrs ago) but they compensated me reluctantly in the end after a letter to their CEO.

Anyways, good to see you exist in the real world if not the virtual!

P

PS Does Royal mail still operates down south because it doesn't seem to operate up here!

The Treasurer has asked me to post the following

"there has been a problem getting the appropriate postal service for UK mail added to the Club’s Royal Mail account.

Treasurer believed this had been resolved this week but will investigate."

Thank you for that Diana, we must hope it will be sorted quickly. These things often take a disproportionate amount of time to resolve, but we will get there in the end.

I suggest Lord March personally has to fill in a long and complicated application form which is then presented to the LMC committee. He also has to provide at least twelve relevant features he personally has written in the last twelve months about the LMC along with images, these must have been published by international life-style magazines. And I suggest his membership fee should be, if elected, lets say £500 pa. Or maybe more.
