Title: New Header
Post by: simonandjuliet on 21 January, 2014, 09:37:33 PM
Like the new header - does it suggest anniversaries for the featured cars ?

Hi Simon,

I does indeed ! Credit goes to "Marky" Mark Lima and I've also used it on the database and library headers too this year! Glad you like it and if anyone is feeling artistic then we're also happy to feature someone's work and swap them around ...

... while I think of it, the old banners don't get overwritten (new ones have a new name) so the old ones are all there somewhere (heading for the library at some point!)

Steve

I cannot take all the credit... Tim sowed the seed, identifying as he did the 10, 20, 30, 40 sequence and Steve is always on hand to maintain the forum and make it happen.

The fun bit is always left for me... creating a banner or two in Photoshop.  But I agree, out of 1,000 members there must be others with a nack for graphic work who can offer a refresh now and again.  For those of you who remember Tony Hart from the 70s/ 80s children's TV art show, "...now it's time for The gallery"  ;D

Nice work Mark and Steve. A great way to herald in the New Year for the club  ;D

Please excuse my ignorance, I know what an Ardea is but what's an Ardea 250? And 30 years since the S4 Delta? I'm really getting old if it is! I remember standing in the forest watching their debut on the Lombard back in 1985 I guess. Oh crap....

I'm the first to admit that I'm not the best at technical Lancia knowledge so I don't question info given to me by my learned colleagues; I simply beautify the given brief. I'll leave it to someone else to answer the '250' question.

On the other note I went to the Birmingham NEC International Motor Show as a young teenager and saw the Jaguar XJ220 Concept Car. The second time I saw the XJ220 was again at the NEC but at the Classic Car Show! Goodness, time flies!!!

250 refers to the Tipo number of the 1st Series Ardea (so say La Lancia edition 3) :)

& pretty much same experience with the XJ220 - except that I did once see one on a trailer near Cirencester in the mid nineties

Tim,  2014 was Dilambda 85 it having been exhibited at the Paris Motor Show of that year. Elaine Moore's Dilambda was delivered to the Maharajah of Mysore in 1929.

Many thanks Steve - you're supposed to learn something new every day!

250 is the Tipo number for all the Ardea saloons; the "chassis" were given the code 350, the Tassi Roma was 450, the Furgoncinos were 550, and the Camioncinos were 650.

Covered in embarrassment! I'd assumed that this was a new thread started in 2015 when of course it was January 2014. Humble apologies Tim for casting unjustified aspersions. I'll get me coat and go and sit on the naughty running board!

I like the 2015 header very much. Are the photos lifted from the original model launch brochures etc?

Most references quote 1st Jan 1940 introduction of production. This was taken as the model anniversary date.

La Lancia states the start of Ardea production as 1939. The factory records that are on the Viva Lancia site show that 70 cars were made in 1939. http://www.viva-lancia.com/specials/cd/vin.php  (Click on the link to page 5 1938-1945)

Thanks Chris.
I can neither confirm nor deny if the car images were brazenly stolen from various websites and blogs  ::)

I would suspect the quality control would have been a bit iffy on the 1st January. Best buy one made later in the week  ;D

Apart from being pedantic on the Ardea introduction date, I do like the new banner.
Mark, is the photo change on the header done on a timed basis, and if so, what is the time between changes of the photo?

Well, I know it is a bit after the horse has bolted on this one but I did publish a listing of model anniversaries in December VL 2011 and while we shall keep the Ardea this year using the excuse that probably none made it to the UK in 1939 (I stand to be corrected....), I have a plea that could I be informed of any other model dates that don't seem correct (as I requested at the time....) - Thanks. Tim.

I merely created the graphics. Steve Pilgrim does all the programming magic.

Ade (et al) , the photo changes on the hour and cycles through the eight models three times during day. Hopefully this means we all get to see them , whatever the timezone. The photos are numbered 01 - 08 and then it's the modulus ( 24 hour / 8  ) + 1 thus giving us the file for the hour ...

Hi Steve

Best not take the Ardea out then or that would bugger up the calculation somewhat.......

On a less frivolous note, I too think the banner is great and particularly like the rotating images.

There is a solution to the 'Ardea problem'
In 1940 Lancia started production of the Ardea 550 Furgoncino. Only 9 were built before WWII.
After the war production began again as the 2nd series Ardea Furgoncino, also called the 650.
Easy, just change the Ardea title in the header to 'Ardea 550' and the picture to one of an Ardea Van.

Again Trailblazing has the Furgoncino as introduced 1941 but the Tassi Roma Tipo 450 introduced in 1940...... My preference would be to leave this as is.....

The 1940 date comes from Camion Lancia by Massimo Condolo
