Title: So, what will I put in my Tax Disc holder from October 2014 ?
Post by: sparehead3 on 16 December, 2013, 12:02:34 PM
Hi

Was just reading up on the removal of the paper tax disc next October and , whilst I can fully see why they'd do it because it's all electronic and can be checked up easily , how I am going to read the tax discs on show cars to find out what they really are ??? (usually a very modified Ford that doesn't pay tax!)

I guess it means if there's an abandoned car on my road or if I'm buying a second hand car the only way I can check is to look online ? *

But I'm still wondering what to do with my tax disc holder (cut my LMC sticker to fit?) or is it Ok to leave the last tax disc there ?

* I can check up on the integrale - but only because I know how it's been spelt :)

You won't even need your insurance certificate as they can also check on a data base if you insured, nor I am sure in not too distant future an MOT certificate.

And now I'm going to have to explain to everyone that, no, it's a replica, not an original if there's no tax disc to look at…

The holder on my 'old' 1300 is quite heavily glued to the screen. I was thinking of displaying the oldest disc I can find (early 80's I think).

Ooooh what a great idea. I think the earliest one I've got was on the donor car, a Lancia Beta, that'll fool a few people!  ;D ;D (but as always, I'd put them right!)

Yes, that is a good idea . Question : will it be legal to put anything in the tax disc holder ? It isn't a legal requirement so I guess you could put anything in there ????

I don't think so after the October start date, no one in authority will bother looking at the disc holder again.

Mind you over here you have to display your MOT disc too, maybe that will be done away with also

I've still got "Fays" first and last tax disc when she was on the road before she came into my ownership.
 Respectively 1966 & 1976.
I used to like the tax disc holder behind the interior mirror on my 2 Series 3 Themas, it had two sections, so I used to put the tax disc one side and my LMC sticker in the other half.
I know it wasn't strictly legal to have the tax disc there, but no one ever queried it.
