Post by: mrmarkyt on 14 November, 2013, 10:58:34 PM
As I was posting up some pictures of my Deltas, I thought i'd do similar with my Thema - I wonder what came of the car?

Or Mine.
2 x Series 3- 2.0 16v Vis LE Autos L585 HAN seen here galloping up Prescot in 1997 & L75 ONG, both were terrific motors but L75 ONG very quickly proved to be useless for towing my caravan,  it was too high geared at 15mph per 1000 rpm, so you could never legally get it in to top gear while towing!

Both were lovely, but did you note the first photos of L75 ONG as she's sitting on refurbed painted wheels, when I sold one of my Dedra's K452 PLK (also shown, and wish I still had), I swopped the new 15" Dedra HF Turbo wheels I'd bought and put them on the Thema as the person I sold the Dedra to didn't want the new wheels for an extra £200, so I swopped the painted ones to it, I've always been a fan of the correct pattern Thema and Dedra alloys with the machined faces, painting them is a bad move as it does away with all the highlights and shading in the recesses which spoils the appearance; ideal situation is keep the machined ones for summer and painted for winter.

Mike,
Selling L75 ONG was an odd experience.
I received a phone call on a sunday lunchtime and fella said could he come and look at her, it turned out he was coming from Manchester over 200 miles away, he turned up about 5pm, didn't want to drive her, listened to the engine and said it sounded a bit noisy so I told him it was quite normal with 16v twin cams, he rang his mechanic on his mobile who listened and said no problem, he promptly paid me I think about £4K in cash and off he went.
By the details he left me he was a car dealer of some kind although I couldn't quite figure out what.
I tried having a look on line at the DVLA for her shortly afterwards, and she'd gone, this was about the date you show as last licenced, I think she either got put onto a private plate or went abroad.
He seemed very keen to get hold of her and she was in A1 condition so other than that, the only other thing would be she was written off in an accident, and if that was the case she wouldn't still show on the DVLA records.
L585 HAN, I'd love to see how she is now, or perhaps I wouldn't! made a real error of judgement with selling her, I was strapped for cash at the time and decided to sell but I took a 1994 Dedra in part exchange, Big Mistake, it was the worst Dedra I'd owned, or seen up to then, it was always going wrong, something that isn't normal with Dedra's, I came to the conclusion that it had suffered through not being looked after, or serviced properly, as cosmetically it was very good.

15 mph? Sounds a bit low geared to me. My Skoda Octavia tows well and is much higher geared. Perhaps you meant 35 mph.

Not dissimilar with my Thema!

..The guy travelled all the way from Suffolk to the Sussex coast with his mate, liked it and promptly bought it and took it home. He was into Lancias and Alfas (and early strabnge shaped Turbo Subaru's!). The next thing is its disappeared too, the only clue is that the cam belt was due, which I told him, maybe he never changed it and it went pop!

Mark..

Sorry John,
Slip of the digit, it was actually 31.5 mph per 1000 rpm, 15mph per 1000 rpm is the figure for top gear in my Fulvia 2c
